MaxwellEdison Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 If you're looking for a card for gaming (UT2k4?!?!) or video encoding/decoding, that seems like a pretty durn good option. If you're looking for CAD, move along...nothing to see here. Quote
skipsophrenic Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 If you're looking for a card for gaming (UT2k4?!?!). YEP - still tryin to figure out how to set up a host game where can be accessed when i'm not online Quote
tzframpton Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 ya as long as its for gaming, then go for it. Quote
John TC Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Just out of interest what is the best of the best card to get if budget was not an object? Quote
tzframpton Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Just out of interest what is the best of the best card to get if budget was not an object? For gaming, probably the GeForce 295GTX. Obviously you'd want to run that in SLI mode, which means buying two of them. Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 For gaming, probably the GeForce 295GTX. Obviously you'd want to run that in SLI mode, which means buying two of them. You also need to be very mindful of their power requirements. And the system would likely run both loud and hot (Probably enough to raise the room temperature). You should keep in mind that the return on investment (ROI) in terms of performance is rarely ever linear. For example, check out this well written performance/value assessment between the AMD Phenom II processers and Intel's Dual Core, Quad Core, and i7 offerings. You can see by looking at their scatter charts that the "early adopter tax" (I.E. new technology having a significantly higher price tag) does not always mean you will have a revolutionary product experience, merely the best that is available to date. It is typically a bad idea to purchase with a "money is no object" mentality. Far better to evaluate your requirements and put in the research to find that which will best suit your needs. Quote
John TC Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I guess this is not the quite right location to pose this question but I was meaning more for Cad than games. Is their a listing, something along the lines “$$ is no object to budget is a consideration/performance” I know I have tried to find this out, has anyone else succeeded? Quote
