I am trying to create a yellow stained glass window material but can't seem to get the color to show properly not matter what setting I use the glass is always 100 percent see through with out the slightest yellow tent. Does anyone have some suggestions on what I can try?

Also has anyone experienced a problem with a material getting stuck on an object? I have noticed at times if I have to change a material assignment for an object then it does not show up sometimes when I render. I can simply save the file close it then reopen it and all is fine but I would like to know if there is a fix for this. I am using a 64 bit computer with a Quadro FX 3500 Performance card.

Are you tryin to stain individual panes of glass or do you have a picture of a stained glass window?

here is something i did real quick in acad07.

I drew 3 panes 10x10x1" and a block behind them a good bit thats 20x10x1". The material on the back (pink) pane is gloss paint. the front three are usings the clear-glass template. I changed the diffuse color to whatever i wanted and changed the settings to the following. You will have to play around with it to get what you want. Translucency was at 76 on those 3. you can also play around with different bump maps that may give the look of glass because a flat surface doesnt really do it.

edit: forgot the picture:)

Ok sorry I forgot the image last time then had trouble getting it to attach it is in the zip file above. I will copy my original message below so just for reference.

Ok that worked great Thanks. There is another problem I have been having trying to create a material. I am trying to put punched holes on an arched solid but the mapping changes and runs to different directions. I have attached an example image. I am using a jpeg for the diffuse mapping and opacity mapping to get the holes and the pattern I want. I realize that I can change the material mapping to be Planar, Box, Spherical, or Cylindrical and then use the one that works the best but the problem is I need to use the same material on other objects of various shapes and creating a material for each object is not an option. Just wondering if this is even possible.

do you have the actual image you used for your diffuse map? also that picture was pretty small you could have just attached the jpeg instead of zipping the file.

im not sure this is the right way to do things but this is how i did it. I just found a material online that was similar and this is what I did. I drew a solid shape using an arc. Then I used Solidedit>Face>Copy and i selected the arced face I wanted to add my material to. It asks you for a base point then a location to copy the face to. I select the same point for both so it just placed the face on my solid. Now when I apply material to it, the material only gets applied to that face and not the entire solid.

So in this render screen shot, the image on the right is Cylindrical mapping, the image on the left is Spherical mapping, and the image in the center is no mapping, just applying my material to the face.

Except for the edge where its tiled, there isnt any distortion. Ive never done this before but after playing with it for a few minutes thats the best result I could get.
