I've recently updated to AutoCAD 2024 and hating it...

I used to have 2013 and I'd click on a line, click on the end point grip and then move it a determined length by typing in 30 (millimetres) for example then hitting enter and it'd move the grip 30mm in the direction of my crosshairs.

Now, in 2024 it will only do this if it is increasing the length of the line or object; it won't shorten the line or object if I've moved the crosshairs in the direction of reducing the line / object.

Is there a setting I can change to get this to act like it was in 2013?

What does -30 do. There is a command Lengthen.

Hi Pete, I am using Autocad 2020, so this may not help you,

but it is worth a try.

Use  SYSVDLG  to open your System Variables Dialog.

If you are unfamiliar with it, it is always a good place to learn some

new variable options, and to help troubleshoot issues you may encounter.

I suggest that you look at DYNMODE variable setting options.

If that doesn't do it for you, check out the next few beginning with DYN.

Just use your ARROW to scroll down through the list, and

they will open and let you take a quick look for likely suspects to help

get you back on the tracks.

Might you have an old .SVF  file available?

Which would include all of the settings which you favored in 2013.

In the bottom of the SYSTEM VARIABLE DIALOG BOX,

you will see the option to save such a file for your future reference.

Always a good idea, even more so as you start to get it behaving how you like it.

Good luck getting it back on the tracks.

Another you may want to investigate is the COORDS System Variable in the same dialog box.

As the COORDS default setting is probably still "1", you may want to try changing it to "2".

These options are also displayed graphically in DRAFTING SETTINGS,

on the DYNAMIC INPUT Tab.

There is also the STRETCH command,

which can be used in either direction.
