njmike Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Can someone please tell me how to transfer the Tool Palette I made to other users. I have tried the cut and paste within the content browser but it will not allow em to drag and drop the new palette into the new catalog. Quote
tzframpton Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Are you networking them at all? Constantly "exporting/importing" Tool Palettes is a complete waste of time and efficiency throughout the office. Quote
njmike Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 No, I am not networking. MY users dont like opening up books so I thought this might be a good way of letting them see the blocks. I am open to any suggestions, but have a very limited programming background. Quote
tzframpton Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Well, the absolute best method of using Tool Palettes between multiple users is to network them. This way any updating to them is instant across all computers, and its easy to load them from anywhere in the office. Plus, the Blocks have to be networked as well. But for now, you can simply type CUSTOMIZE at the command line, right-click each Tool Palette, and select "Export". Do this to all the ones you want. put them onto the other computer and use the same method to Import them back in. But you need to keep in mind the paths of where the Blocks are located might be different, this is why you want to network your blocks as well. If you would like more info on how to really mainstream this process with networking, let me know and I'll post up a quick tutorial when I have time. Quote
njmike Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 I am networked and will be putting the palettes on a network drive. Sorry for the confusion. Quote
tzframpton Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 The easiest way is to create a networked folder on your Server, and map a drive to this folder. You should have all access to this folder if you are the CAD Manager, and everyone else should have Read Only for their permissions. Get with your I.T. Admin to set this up. This is crucial because they could mess the Tool Palettes up pretty bad if they don't know what they're doing, so this disallows them any changing. Then, go to your local Tool Palette location shown below: (You might have a different version of AutoCAD then mine, so it will be named a little differently, but still the paths to locate it is the same) and copy this folder to the newly created networked drive. Now everytime you make a change, it updates all across the board when you restart AutoCAD. Simple as that. Now go to your Options menu -> Files tab and scroll down to Tool Palettes, and change the path to the newly created networked one. Ours is mapped as our K:\ drive. Do this to all machines. Quote
