In Drawing with Dots, Lines and Plains he describes how to create a line by creating a plane first deleting 3 verticies then you make a right click which creates a line this cant bee the only way to create a line, anyone can explain what remark describes using the grease pencil

Why do you keep posting Blender questions in the Autocad sections? I've asked you several times to post Blender questions in the Design Software section. So, once again, I am moving your thread to the Design Software section.

As for your question, the answer is, you're using the wrong program. Like I've mentioned before, Blender is not a CAD program. It's a 3D modeling, rendering, animation program.

Text is easy enough to create. Just go to the "Add" menu and click "Text", as shown in the image below. But there is no such thing as leaders in Blender. You might be able to create something that looks like a leader, but it will not be easy and it will be difficult to edit or manipulate it, so I'm not going to spend time trying figure it out. If you want to be able to add text and leaders and other notation, you should be using a CAD based program.

Please don't post any more Blender questions in the Autocad sections.

Hey Dave, I suggest you follow Cad64's advice or consider porting everything you have created in Blender over to AutoCAD if that is even possible, which I doubt.  You may have to start from scratch.  But at least AutoCAD has multiline text and multi-leaders.

FYI - Somewhere in amongst these posts is one where Dave informs us that 3D text is not permissible in a patent application.  As far as creating a line, I provided him with a couple of options.  He dismissed both options but has since changed his mind about one of the suggestions.  I guess we will have to await his reply and see what he asks for next.

Ok, since I'm a glutton for punishment, I decided to see what it would take to create a leader. It took about a minute or so to create the one in the image below, but you would have to manually create one for every piece of text in your file, and trying to maintain line thickness and arrowhead size across all leaders would be extremely difficult. So my verdict is that it's not worth the effort.

If you want to make this model in Blender then you could render your final images and insert them into Autocad and add text and leaders there.

Well, you (Cad64) just opened yourself up to a whole slew of "How do I.... " questions.  Better start on that video tutorial given that the OP has an aversion to text based instructions.  LOL!  Good luck.

There's no way I'll be able to explain how I did it. Not that it's all that difficult, but it does require some knowledge and understanding of how the modeling tools work. Scaling, extruding, manipulating and merging vertices and the ability to adjust everything to make the leader line and arrowhead look proportionally correct. If Dave wants to try it, the order of operations are listed below. I even provided a link that explains how to merge vertices.

Create a plane

Scale it and move vertices so it's a short thin horizontal landing

Extrude edge down to create the leader line

Extrude edge down to create the length of the arrowhead

Extrude edges out on each side to create the width of the arrowhead

Merge vertices to create the point of the arrowhead

Move and adjust vertices to get the leader line thickness consistent and the arrowhead proportionally correct.

This whole thing is an exercise in futility though, since Autocad can create leaders automatically.

I'm sure Dave will want to get right on that.

It has been very quiet today. A bit too quiet. 🤔

Not sure what happened to Dave but if anyone else is interested in adding CAD dimensions in Blender, I just came across this pretty cool Add-on called Measurable. It's not free, but you can get it on Gumroad at the link below for only $3, or if you're feeling appreciative, you can pay the suggested $8. I don't really have a use for an Add-on like this at the moment, so I haven't purchased it, but if you're looking for this sort of thing, here you go.
