64lesabre Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 i would like to build one of these domes in my backyard and id like to be able to make simple plans to use. how would i go about drawing one of these up or is there a simple command like sphere or torus that would start me out? here is a link so you can see what im talking about if you dont know http://www.plunk.org/~grantham/public/geodesic_domes/geodesic_domes.html Quote
kduck63 Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Here is a basic 3D dome strut design I made. A geodesic dome is nothing more than a big soccer ball; hexagons and pentagons. The degree to which subdivide these basic shapes will determine the complexity of the dome. Compare the dome you have pictured with the Epcot center dome in Disney World. Quote
64lesabre Posted August 20, 2007 Author Posted August 20, 2007 but how do i figure out what size to make the various hexagons and pentagons? and how do i figure out what angles to attach the hexagons to the pentagons? Quote
Strix Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 is this for planning permission? are you purchasing it or building from scratch? if you're purchasing it, ask the company if they can supply suitable drawings Quote
kduck63 Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Have you drawn 3D before? You can do it in 2D, but it's much easier to see and understand the process in 3D. Step by step instructions would be too lengthy to do thru this forum. If you want to contact me via private message and exchange email addresses I would be happy to help. Quote

ReMark Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 guru: We will need more information regarding what shapes you had in mind. Quote
