cvriv.charles Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 How do I get AutoCad 09 to snap to origin? Thanks. Quote
lpseifert Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Origin of block, text etc. > ins Origin of UCS > 0,0 Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 If you're looking for something to snap to to use as an OTRACK point, you can put a point (node) at the coordinates 0,0,0. Then if you add node to your OSNAP list you'll be able to OTRACK off it. If you're just looking to place something at the origin, just type in 0,0,0. Quote
CVRIV Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Sorry for the delay in response. I mean origin being 0, 0, 0. I will try What Maxwell mentioned about placing a node there. i usually find myself constantly using origin place objects etc. Sketchup had a snap to origin so Im kinda of stuck on it. I figured I could also use snap to grid too but along with origin, the cursor well,... snaps to grid:) Dont like that. Anyways. Thanks! Quote
SEANT Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I, too, try to keep any axes of symmetry aligned to the origin. This allows a sensible foundation to orient Lines, Circle, Mirrors, Polar Arrays, etc. when necessary. My Right-Click cursor menu is set up for a quick “Origin Snap” like so: Quote
cvriv.charles Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 Sweet that will do! I'll give that a try! Thanks:) Oh one more thing,... MaxwellEdison said to add a point to the origin. How exactly would I do that? Forgive me for the questions. I do have a book and I have been reading. It's just that I havent had any real hands on experience with it now. I am really good with Sketchup. I'm trying to find similarities between the two. Is a Node or point object anything like a construction point in SU? What about construction lines? Does AC have something like this? I am thinking no because the book im reading was using regular lines as temporary contruction lines. Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 A point is just that, its a one dimensional object which is displayed by a single pixel no matter how far you zoom in or out. To put one in just type POINT->[Enter]->0,0,0->[Enter]. If you want something like a construction line, you can draw RAYs from the origin along each of your major axes. Either use ORTHO or POLAR, or type in the secondary points as 1,0,0; 0,1,0; 0,0,1; -1,0,0; 0,-1,0; 0,0,-1. You'd want to make sure any of these entities are on a non-plotting layer so they won't show on printouts. All this aside, You really don't need to do these things if you familiarize with Casrtesian coordinate entry. Although the node at origin can be helpful depending on the drawing. Generally, if you want something moved to the origin its as easy as selecting your base point and entering 0,0 for the second point, AutoCAD defaults to placing objects at 0 units along the Z axis unless specified by the user (sometimes accidentally while using OTRACK).I think as you familiarize yourself with AutoCAD you may start to see some of those things as a crutch, sometimes even a limitation. If not, the option is always there for you to create it yourself, as with just about everything in AutoCAD, it's malleable by the user. Quote
SEANT Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 For better visibility the appearance of a point can be modified via the PDMODE system variable or the ddptype command. Quote
cvriv.charles Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 Wow,... I'm lost within AutoCAD. As I'm reading my AC book I'm thinking easy! Makes perfect sense. I'm skimming along because it's easy. Well,... because of the fact that I didnt actually try any of it I forgot even the dumbest of things. I will literally have to skim through from the first page to recap this stuff. Geez. I tried the creating a point but my cursor didnt snap to it. I had osnap on too with node selected. I will figure it out. I just need to get some sleep first. Worked all night. Thanks. Quote
einstainas Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 if you cant snap you have check snap setting (you cand find it on the botom there is snap, you have to pres right mouse button then settings) and actualy there is one more way to place point on origin. you have to select point and put it doesnt matter there. then click on this point 2 times (quickly) or pres right mouse button an then properies. and here you can set coordonates.position x, y, z. you have tio type zero in every field.
