AutoCAD open/save dialog missing

Recommended Posts

I just started working for a new place and one of the machines they have running ACAD 2008 has some problems. The main one being that when you choose File+Open from the menu at the top of the screen, it does not open the dialogue window which allows you to browse locations for the file you want. Instead it asks for the specific filename on the command line. I don't know how this happened but someone told me an older worker who wanted the setup similar to AutoCAD DOS used this machine before it was given to me.

Any suggestions on where to change this back to the defaults?

A quick look at our FAQ section would have given you this answer straight away.

It's currently number 10 on the "Most Popular FAQ's".

Do we need to answer this question anymore? By that I mean, should we, as a matter of course, just say "Refer to FAQ section"?

the last time I looked - which admittedly wasn't that recent - it wasn't obvious what to look for. Now that I've looked at CAD64's link I can see it more plainly so you are probably right

I've done this a few times, especially for questions like this that get asked all the time. But like Dave, I also haven't looked around in there enough to know what is and what isn't in there. I guess I need to go poke around in there and educate myself as to the contents.

 Hey, aren't both of you on the FAQ development team? I would think that you guys would be the first ones to link members to the answers in that section. :P

I plead the "fifth" on the advice of my lawyers Dewey, Cheatum and Howe".
