In autocad there are two icons for cutting, the one with the hatch I can't find it anymore as I look for this way of cutting. Did I just find the scissors?

The scissors would indicate you are using the TRIM command would it not?  Look under Tools for EXTRIM.

Here is another option that may work but I do not have AutoCAD 2010 to actually test it on.  It is a lisp routine by Joe Burke called CookieCutter2_v1.0.  Use the APPLOAD command to load the routine.  To run the routine type either CookieCutter2 or CC at the command line.  It is supposed to work on hatch patterns.
