malche Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I want to make a model that i can bend - like a flexible hinge- in many ways (see the attached pic) how can i do it in autocad? i'm not so familer with autocad I know how to do it in 3dsMax with bones & skin & to export it to autocad as DWG, but i'm doubtfull if autocad accept it tnx Quote
ReMark Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I think you'd have better luck with Inventor. Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I've made some dynamic blocks out of 3D components which "hinged". Though in reality they were separate 3d Solids, each with their own half of the curve, like a hook. I added a rotation parameter based on their mutual center point and this allowed them to "bend", combined with a few limits on the rotation parameter it works well enough. If you are looking to actually bend a solid however, autocad is not the correct program. As ReMark said, Inventor or SolidWorks may be a better choice, but You'll still likely need the object in 2 or more parts linked together. Quote
Cad64 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Why don't you just stay in Max? Why do you need to bring it into Autocad? Quote

fuccaro Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 You can model in Max and import in AutoCAd to make the desired projections Quote
SEANT Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 This type of process is easily achieved with a Nurbs based, Surface modelers such as Alias Design, Maya, Rhino, etc. Max also supports Nurbs, it may have the functionality. The attached was done in Rhino then imported into AutoCAD as a 3dSolid. Flexed.zip Quote
malche Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 Did you BEND it in Rhino or in Autocad? Quote
Cad64 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 The Bend would have to be done in Rhino. Autocad does not have this functionality. Quote
