Tim64545665 Posted December 14, 2021 Share Posted December 14, 2021 Hi All, I have received a 3d tin in Autocad (3d triangles) from a surveyor and i would like to cut 2d sections out. I was wondering if there is a way to possible convert the 3d triangles in a surface possibly and then draw a line to cut out a elevation/section through that surface, so i could essentially have a surface line and then add my own datum. BIGAL Posted December 14, 2021 Share Posted December 14, 2021 The simple answer is that you can get a section from a line crossing 3dfaces, it is something I did like 30 years ago, for house elevations it worked on 3d contour lines. You need to convert the 3d faces to lines, remove duplicates then can trim the lines revealing the end 3d pts which can be joined. Will see if can find I would Google should be out there. lrm Posted December 15, 2021 Share Posted December 15, 2021 (edited) If you are using vanilla AUtoCAD and not Civil 3D use the planesurf command with the Object option to convert the 3dfaces to surfaces then give the section command and specify the location of the sectioning plane as needed. I'm on vanilla AutoCAD I tried the planesurf command with little luck, perhaps I'm doing something wrong. Although looks like I can convert the faces to a surface easily using "convtosurface". Once the model is converted, I can use "sectionplane" with "Type" and "slice". I then reduce the size of the plane so it is thin and use command "sectionplanetblock" > select my section plane and click create. This method gives me a block of a section cut nicely with minimal trimming, just a few steps involved that I could reduce with lisp. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
