Berzerker Posted September 22, 2020 Author Posted September 22, 2020 (edited) I could change the first two but SKYSTATUS and LIGHTINGUNITS said "unknown command". Turned my screen gray/grey depending on where you live. Opened the sunproperties and yeah, I need to do some more reading. I can't get my logo to look right no matter what I do (?) One way it takes out my cross bones the other way I can't see the skull at all. I made this awhile back and I'm still working on it but when I BMP it out it comes out fussy and looks bad, it doesn't print good/right and it's driving me crazy trying to figure it out. I wish I had a 3D printer boy could I move forward! My friend is still doing his two week thing and I won't be able to tell to print me another one till he gets back. steven-g Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 Isn't there a 'makerspace' or something similar near you, I've been to a few and they don't charge a fortune to let you use the 3d printers. And they are usually really happy to have people present. Where are yoiu in the world? Quote
Berzerker Posted September 22, 2020 Author Posted September 22, 2020 Alabama steven-g. No I live about 25 to 30 miles outside my city limits. I don't think there's a place like that close to where I'm at, at least not that I'm aware of. When you live in the country it's great, 15 acres and few neighbors but there are draw backs. I will get one eventually. Quote
steven-g Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 See if there is anything close here https://wiki.hackerspaces.org/Alabama providing they are still running looks to be some old address's there Quote

There's some good information for older versions of Autocad: http://www.dscohn.com/AU/handouts/GD115-2 Rendering part 2-DOC.pdf Quote

I haven't had time to go through them all yet and check out prices and not trying saying anything bad about my friend it might be a better option than trial and error/learning on his part. He hasn't had it that long and "IS" still learning how to print with no errors. But it is free! 13 minutes ago, Cad64 said: Take a look at this link. I found out there is a difference in output types (BMP, PNG, JPEG and TIFF etc. I tried a few of them and seen a big difference right off the bat. Lets see if this looks better on the forum: Nope, wouldn't let me post a TIFF pic. Edited September 22, 2020 by Berzerker Quote

Yes, Bmp is the worst image format. Tiff is the highest quality, but also the largest file size. Jpg is "Ok" quality and small file size. It's a good file format for posting online. Png is great quality with a reasonable file size. I typically save images to Png format, but for posting on the forum, I save to Jpg format. The reason your Tiff image was rejected is that it probably exceeds the image size limit for the forum. Save to Jpg and you shouldn't have any issues. Quote
Berzerker Posted September 22, 2020 Author Posted September 22, 2020 Bad thing is I had to change it to a BMP to erase the background and make it transparent. Hope it lets me save it back as a raster image later. Using paint shop pro 8. I want to print a sticker to put on the bottom but as I said it doesn't print good as a BMP. I can't use white as the background color of the sticker because the bones are white and they would be invisible when printed. Quote
Cad64 Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 I don't know anything about paintshop pro, but you might want to take a look at these tutorials for setting up a postscript plotter and then plotting to .eps format, provided paintshop can open .eps files? https://www.cadtutor.net/tutorials/autocad/postscript-plotter.php https://www.cadtutor.net/tutorials/autocad/autocad-to-photoshop.php Quote
Berzerker Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 (edited) OK I've found two things so far on SKYSTATUS. There is a command "DEFAULTLIGHTING" and it's set to 1 meaning "on" I'm guessing. After reading through the pages Cad64 posted for me and the advanced render settings I only found this: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2015/ENU/AutoCAD-Core/files/GUID-F8A234CB-5742-4660-AC41-09287EC5161B-htm.html In Final Gather it says: Mode Controls the final gathering dynamic settings. On. Turns on the global illumination in final gather. Off. Turns off the calculation of global illumination in final gather. Auto. Indicates that the final gather should be dynamically enabled or disable at render time based on the skylight status. But I can't find where to change skylight status settings.......yet! There is no auto in my Final Gather settings I changed the "DEFAULTLIGHING" to 0 and rendered I got this: Edited September 23, 2020 by Berzerker Quote
Berzerker Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 (edited) Changed the output to "Presentation" and it got better. Still chrome is not chrome. Edited September 23, 2020 by Berzerker Quote
Cad64 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 The chrome doesn't look like chrome because there is no environment for the material to reflect. So it's reflecting the black background, which makes it look black. Take a look at this link: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2020/ENU/AutoCAD-Core/files/GUID-04F52D0B-AF89-4036-99EC-874B22D0D176-htm.html Quote
Berzerker Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 I've opened that going through everything this morning. Apparently this is not where this is located in 2007. Here's what I see: Quote
Cad64 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Maybe this link will help: http://www.dscohn.com/AU/handouts/GD111-3 Rendering Part 1-PPT.pdf Sorry I can't be more "hands on" with this but 2007 is very different in terms of how you go about setting up lighting and the rendering environment. Quote
Cad64 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Also, did you change PERSPECTIVE to 1 and SUNSTATUS to 1 before you rendered? If not, do that and then open the Sun Properties dialog. It should look different after changing those settings. Quote
Berzerker Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 (edited) Just double checked and yes they're both set to 1. While glancing through to link you gave me I noticed it said they changed some things starting in 2008. So my settings might not be in the same place. I know it has to be there or it's just the command line is different. There has to be a place where I can tell it what type of SKYLIGHT to use. Edited September 23, 2020 by Berzerker Quote
Cad64 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Yes, I tried looking for links but everything I found is for 2008. What happens when you type BACKGROUND at the command prompt? Does anything pop up? Or try typing SUNANDSKY. It's there somewhere, I just don't remember the command that opens it. Quote
Berzerker Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 Background = unknown command and sunandsky = "sky" unknown command. Quote
Cad64 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Ok, take a look at this tutorial. It's for 2007, so it should work, I hope. https://www.mycadsite.com/tutorials/level_3/lighiting-rendering-autocad-3d-model-3-17.html Edit: Or maybe not. After looking into it further, I don't think it's for 2007. I'm not sure I can really help any more with this. 2007 is really old and things were done differently in that version. Your best option would be to see if you can find a book on Amazon or something. Quote
Berzerker Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 Still messing around with it and I added a spot light to it...Still no chrome Quote
