Bill Tillman Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 (edited) I made a revision to a drawing file and used REVCLOUD to indicate what was changed. Next to the REVCLOUDS I created I placed a small delta symbol with a letter in it, which is a block, to show which revision this was covering. The need came to make all this disappear from the drawing but I didn't want to erase them. So I turned off the layer they were on. The clouds disappeared but the blocks which are the delta symbols are still there. I changed them to another layer then back to see if that would kick start it right and AutoCAD even gives me the message that I just moved objects to layer that is off. ??? I edited the block and moved all lines and objects in it to the layer I want to turn off. And at least the lines disappeared but the text which is an attribute in the block still appears. ??? steven-g Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 Is the object on a different layer inside the block, it is recommended to have all objects inside a block on layer '0' for this reason. If inside the block an object is on layer '1' and the block itself is on layer '2' then in your drawing turning off layer '2' will still leave the objects in the block visible. Quote
CyberAngel Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 Did you run ATTSYNC on the block after you changed the attribute? If not, the attributes in the existing instances will keep their old properties, including layer. 1 Quote
ammobake Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 (edited) It could also be caused by user overrides to the colors or layers of the attdef. Even though the attdef is part of the parent block, Autocad will still allow the user to change the color or layer of the attdef text after the block is placed. And if you then copy that block and use it everywhere in your drawing, now you have accidentally applied "user overrides" to instance of the block in your drawing. Some users do this without thinking - Or don't understand that the user overrides can cause problems. In that case, the linework could disappear when layer 0 is turned off. But the text would still remain. The easiest way to check would be to double click your attdef, click "text options" tab, and figure out which layer the text is on and what color it is. In the example the color should reflect Layer "0" with color "By Layer" So if the settings are different, user overrides have definitely been made. ChriS Edited May 13, 2020 by ammobake Quote
