If eldon's answer doesn't fix it sounds like part of the drawing may simply be covered up with Toolbars and the Command Window.  Does toggling Ctrl+0 help?

Thanks Eldon, this fixed the issue. Its the hardware accelaration that was the issue, not sure if my graphics adapter was too fast or too slow, but whatever, the problem is fixed. Many thanks to all the contributors.
