Hi all

Could someone please suggest a good reference tutorial on how to create a deformation/ dimple on a sheet metal part using inventor 2009.

Or simply advise on how to acheive the feature.

I would like to know the process rather then use an existing part.

Do I need to create a .ide etc?!?!

Thanks in advance!!

i havent played with IV09 much yet but in SW you can create a die from a solid part and apply it to sheet metal.

I don't know how special what your looking for, but Inventor comes with (I think) a Round Emboss .ide file in the Punch Tool.

It doesn't look like it has a lot of options, but to use it you'll need to create a sketch on the face of the sheet metal and place a centerpoint on the spot where you'll want to punch. If the available options aren't enough for you, you may need to look into editing that .ide (if you can) or creating a new .ide for a punch.

Good Luck. Let us know if you need a little more clarification.

Many thanks for the information Hoozin

I did look at that - but I cant seem to edit the round emboss parameters i.e: they are in imperial also. I can only edit the angle.:(

I have saved it again and tried to edit it, but still no joy!

I need a dimple along the edge of a wing rib. This is done with a crimping tool in the shop and adds stiffness along the edges of the rib, so multiple leaf shaped dimples are needed. For the life of me I can not find anywhere in Inventor 2011 or Solidworks on how to do this.:(

Please HELP! :)

I would have started a new thread for this.

Sounds like it should be fairly simple feature.

Can you attach a picture and/or what you have tried so far?
