New to Civil Drafting, need tips

I am new to Civil Drafting. I got hired on with Transmissions and Utilities Department (Sewer lines & Waterlines)

I had an incident yesterday which I am glad I caught ahead of time. Basically I was creating my own Civil 3D Control points instead of importing the surveyors Point file.

The surveyor sent us a cad file wich we made our topo and I xrefed it in to our sheet file. I then created points to give us the Northing and easting coordinates. Wrong?

My coworker told me I should use their "points" because its on them. True?

The surveyors work is always GOSPEL. The only time we query it was if something did not look right. They put the marks in field to use for controln ad guarantee their work.

As a newbee I would suggest you confirm with senior staff the right way to do this part of the project.

I agree with BigAl. DO NOT change the surveyor's data. You can change the way AutoCAD interprets the data, however, by using northing and easting labels on those points.

just my 2 cents...

CyberAngel and BIGAL are both providing you the correct answer, survey points are always the law.
