Big G
Hi I currently have Auto cad 2014 full runing on my windows 7 pro computer. I am contemplating upgrading my windows 7 Pro software to windows 10 pro. Auto desk forums state that Auto cad 2014 will not work on windows 10, other forums suggest otherwise. Please can anyone advise before I upgrade, whether my cad version will work in windows 10, or indeed if there is a 'workaround' if not compatible. Thanks in advance
ReMark
AutoCAD 2014 will not be SUPPORTED under Windows 10 which doesn't necessarily mean you won't be able to run it. Some users have experienced success using compatibility mode while others have found that a program called Longbow Converter holds promise. eldon
I am currently running AutoCAD 2002 on a virtual machine with OS Windows XP, and Quick Basic on a virtual machine with OS Windows 98. The whole lot on a machine with Windows 10 OS. This is the way it was done (thanks to my IT specialist (son)). 1. Install VMWare convertor program on old laptop 2. Use this program to create virtual image of the existing old laptop onto a USB external hard disk or some other type of external storage 3. Switch off old laptop (hopefully for the last time) 4. Purchase new PC, with sufficient SSD disk space to run Windows 10 (with plenty of room) and the Virtual machine. might be sensible to get 2 SSDs. Also add large conventional hard drive to take copies of the virtual machine prior to any major changes / updates 5. Install new PC with either VMware Player, or VMWare Workstation 6. Use software installed in point 5 to open virtual machine created in point 2 7. Be amazed how fast a Win XP machine can run on modern hardware, even whilst virtualised 8. Use shared networking, and a network share to pass information between the “Real” Windows 10 PC, and the “Virtual” Windows XP PC
Big G
Thanks for replies, I took the plunge and upgraded to windows 10 Pro and amazingly all my old programmes worked including Auto cad ( seems ok at moment). so thats a relief. Eldon Interesting info regarding VMWare PS Mark I like your footnote 'I'm retired now'............
rkmcswain
@Big G FWIW, we have probably over a hundred PCs here running Civil 3D 2014 on Windows 10 (1709), with no issues. There may be issues with some portion of it that we have not hit yet, but for the most part it works just fine.
Big G
Thanks for reply, it seems to be working ok at the moment. So I don’t know why Autocad state it is not compatible with Windows 10. My next project is to replace my primary Hdd drive with SSD, so hopefully all will go well there also.

Because Win10 came out after AutoCAD 2014 did, and Autodesk rarely goes back and verifies situations like this. Can't blame them for this. I actually have release 13 (circa 1994) running on Win
addysmith97
AutoCAD 2014 was not designed to run in Windows 10, Windows 10 is newer than AutoCAD 2014.

f700es
Agree with RK. It should work but no telling what future OS updates will do for that.
chemionix
Hi Guys, This is really confusing and tough decision. Instead, I will suggest checking with an IT expert who can help to make the right decision. You can also make a list of your requirement and search for an alternative software. Lastly, you have the option to outsource the project or a part of a project to be handled by a team of certified and professional to meet the deadline. SLW210
As far as I know, that probably is not going to get activated by Autodesk. How did you transfer files from the old hard drive to the new hard drive?
BIGAL
Look at Bricscad it's much cheaper than Acad and a perpetual license.
