Family Duct Fitting connection problem

Hello, I am having trouble getting my Duct fitting family to connect to a length of Duct, my connector Height and Width are both Instance based, which I assume takes on the dimensions of whatever piece it is connecting to.

However, everytime I try connecting, I get the error "Shapes do not match. a Connection could not be made"(picture below)

 

What am I doing wrong here??

My duct fitting family is a Cap, and the connector element is a fitting
