grain Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 How do I get rid of viewports that wont be selected. They dont appear on model space tab they do have their own ucs. I have tried unlocking viewports. Nothing is locked in the layer manager. I have solved the problem by creating a new layout but would be interested if anyone has the answer. Happy New Year Quote
JBullseye74 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Hey Grain....You need to unfreeze your Viewport Layer so you can select it and delete it. Quote
Jaelin Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I've had the same problem over the last year and a half with Civil 3D LDC '08 and '09. I can see the viewport, it's not frozen or locked or anything. It's just there. I can click into the viewport and work in it but I can't grab the actual viewport to move it, stretch it or modify properties on it. The only way I've been able to get around this is to delete the layout and start over. Also it seems to only be an issue when using our Defpoints layer. When I create a new layer called Viewports and check it to where it won't print then it works and I've never had a problem with it. It's also done it on multiple computers and through two versions for us so I'm beginning to think it's a minor bug with the software but not sure. I never ran into this issue with '06. Quote
Attila The Gel Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I had the same problem today ! cant select it to delete it. what i did was cmd 'Layon' and I could select it because it was on another layer! these things happen so quick. hope this helps Quote
ammobake Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 It sounds more like some kind of compatability issue to me. The viewports in some of the more recent releases of autodesk software have some properties that the old viewports didn't have (like "shade plot"). Perhaps there is some kind of conflict there between different verions of autocad. An audit command might find and fix any errors but probably not if the cause is a compatability conflict of some kind. Doesn't sound like you can even edit properties of the viewport since you can't even select them. wow. With Jaelin's problem, the cause might be the viewport being linked to "sheet view" under properties. One way to find out would be to create a viewport again that is linked to sheet view. If it is linked to the sheet view it might not let you select it to change anything. Obviously isn't a layering issue of the viewports layer isn't locked or frozen or anything. not sure. -ChriS Quote
Dipali Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 when the viewport is on layer 'deffpoint' & if it is unselectable, check layer '0' is not off/freeze. this is a bug in autocad & this has been discussed in detail previously in other threads. If you search with viewport+deffpoint, you may find it. Quote
sketch11 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 The following worked for me in AutoCAD 2013. Double click to go into the viewport, if this works then progress as follows: Double click the [+] symbol (Viewport Controls) in the top left hand corner, this will take you into model space, then double click the [-] symbol to get back into paper space. Now the viewport is recreated, so you can now delete it. Not logical but it works. Quote
blarter4 Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 This is funny because the answer came 7 years later and i'm pretty sure the person probably figured it out by then, but it is great that we get the answer now! :) Quote

Welcome to the forum! You'll find that this kind of thing happens regularly. The site has been around since 1996, so there's a lot of back issues in the basement. Quote
BIGAL Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Did you read the previous solutions ? Try (command "-layer" "on" "*" "T" "*" "" "erase" (ssget "X" (list (cons 0 "Viewport")(cons 410 (getvar 'ctab)))) "") Quote
