BIGMIKE09281946 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Any thoughts on what the optimal combination of screen display options make for an easy to work with environment? If I am going to be spending the next twenty years working at AutoCAD, I want the least intrusive of display options. Quote
GypsyQueen Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Any thoughts on what the optimal combination of screen display options make for an easy to work with environment? If I am going to be spending the next twenty years working at AutoCAD, I want the least intrusive of display options. I think you'll find that it's more personal preference than any specific way. I have a widescreen monitor at work and do all my 2d modeling in a black background and the same for my paper space. One of my colleagues likes to have a white background for his paper space, but I feel that it puts too much of a strain on my eyes. I'd probably work with a grey background if it weren't for the fact that half of my non-essential items in a drawing are placed on a grey layer of sorts (company standard). I've been tempted to test other colors out, but I usually worry I'll find something that's really easy for me to work with and for others they won't be able to read anything on my screen. Which is bad when the engineers and designers need to see things at my desk. Plus I think lighting around the workspace plays a pivotal role as well. The types of lightbulbs will also dictate what will "feel" comfortable as well. I think I'm gonna hush myself now, since I could probably go on for a while about that. But perhaps other people's set ups will help give you a better idea of what they find comfortable and why. Quote
BIGMIKE09281946 Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 I am currently experimenting with a gray background, because my courseware want's me to use Blue for Dimensions and Text. It was just a little hard for me to see the Blue stuff. Since I was a product of the hippy era, I don't go along with their Blue, and choose to use yellow on a black background. And, I too could go on for another minute. They should have a He, He Smiley. Quote
GypsyQueen Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Aye I agree. And yes, there are some colors that don't work well with a gray background either. I was just thinking that the color blue I use for running my ductwork doesn't come up well on gray backgrounds. We used to use yellow for all the text, but a couple of my co-workers didn't like it. Because they use the white backgrounds. So I changed the text to white and now it shows up black for them and annoying for me. But I can deal with having white text on black background better, I guess. I suppose if I had a copy of ACAD here to mess around with more often, I'd have made a different set up already. But alas, I'm actually supposed to be reviewing the use of Autodesk Design Review so I can give a detailed explanation to one of our non-computer savy designers so he can start doing mark-ups. *crawls back into her corner of the interweb and goes back to reading and messing with ADR* Quote
Attila The Gel Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I have a black background because of the strain on eyes, like GypsyQueen said, with a bright background. but when your surroundings are bright especially in the summer it stings my eyes for a second when i look somewhere else. So I think the background of your surroundings is also a little important. I would like to try some other colors to but every other color is funny to me. Quote
f700es Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I use a black background for model space and I use white in paper space and I usually set my paper tabs to display plot settings so I get as close to printed view as possible. I'll see it just like it will look plotted. I also have the over head lights out with only task lights on in my office. Very easy on the eyes. Quote
chap_engineer Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Might be a stupid question but how do I change the colour of the background? I get a black background when working with 2D and a white with 3D but would prefer both to be black? Quote

Attila The Gel Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I like the paper space in white. It gives me a good preview on how it will looks look on paper. Quote
