Modified Toolbar and want to reset it

Hello,

I just found this site and looks like it may be a lot of help for me.

I tried moving my tool bars around and then noticed that there was more zoom commands than I know what to do with! I began customizing and I think I made a mess of things.

Can I reset to a default and start over?

There are several duplicate zoom commands in the "customize user interface" and I don't know if I did that or not.

First. Using Windows Explorer, find the location of all .cui files. Write down the exact path to each. Also note the date and file size of each.

Second. The next time you get the urge to start customizing the CUI make sure you've kept a copy of the original version.

Report back here with your findings regarding the first step.

Per long time forum member rkmcswain re: location of .cui files comes this:

"There is a virgin copy of this file in C:\Program Files\[product]\UserDataCache\Support."

I must be doing something wrong. I have Vista Business and not used to it yet. Even in XP I never used explorer.

I typed in .cui in the search at the bottom of the start menu and no results. I pulled up windows explorer but where should I look? recently... has lots of stuff but no .cui

The messed up acad.cui file is probably here:

C:/Documents and Settings/[yourcomputernamehere]/Application Data/AutoDesk/AutoCAD LT 2008/r17.1/enu/support.

The virgin copy should be here:

C:/Program Files/AutoCAD LT 2008/UserDataCache/Support.

My advice would be to find the messed up .cui and rename it something like acadBAD.cui and leave it just where it is for the moment. Then find the original version and copy it to the folder where acadBAD.cui resides. Restart AutoCAD and tell us what you see (or don't see).

Is this list normal?

I repeat. What folders are listed under the main folder for the version of AutoCAD you are running? Also, what is the correct name of the main folder itself? Is it AutoCAD LT2008 or something similar?

Do you have system and hidden files turned off (the default) in Explorer?

Take a look under your Windows folder. Is there one named User?

OK now I feel blind and dumb!

I started listing the folders and right there in front of me was "Support"!

Just in case:

C/program files/AutoCad Lt 2008/:

CER

DRV

en-US

Fonts

Help

Plot Styles

Plotters

Sample

Setup

Support

Template

UPI

Web Depot

Web Services

and many dll's

For a moment there I thought I had gone to the dentist (like pulling teeth). Now that we have that cleared up. Is there a acad.cui and custom.cui file listed under Support? If so, what is the file size and date on each?

No,

I don't see any files with .cui

There is a "acadlt.slb" and the only things beginning with "c" are:

cat--chroma---csy everything looks like .dct files

Going to lunch. Be back later

Maybe AutoCAD treats the .cui file as a "hidden" file in which case the only way you would see it listed is if you changed a setting in Windows Explorer. Do you have any idea what I'm talking about?

I don't know if this is really worth all the trouble. How does the list I made on the first page compare with yours? I have the zoom commands that I know how to use. I just thought I messed up the list.

It's worth it from the point of view that you'll learn, once and for all, where one of the most important files in AutoCAD is located in case you ever need to actually find it. This is important if you are going to customize AutoCAD.

I use autocad LT on vista & thought would try to look.

I did search & found lots of cui files in

C:/Documents and Settings/[yourcomputernamehere]/Application Data/AutoDesk/AutoCAD LT 2008/R13/enu/support.

& I laos found the vergine copy in the folder mentioned above.

In Customise User Interface Under 'Zoom', I have only

  1. Zoom Window
  2. Zoom Dynamic
  3. Zoom Scale
  4. Zoom Centre
  5. Zoom Object
  6. Zoom In
  7. Zoom Out
  8. Zoom All
  9. Zoom Extent
