in nepal. the municipality standard says the drawings must be in i/8"=1' scale

So if i understand you. You need to know what scale to make an A4 so that it will be within required 1/8"=1' when it is stretched to an A3 size on a copier?

Are you sure about the scale? Could it be 1:8 which is a ratio and not a scale? Why would a city in Nepal want drawings submitted using imperial units?

Who created these drawings and what program was used originally? It is odd to say the least.

You have two floor plans and three elevations. Were you planning on printing a single sheet (for a total of five) for each?

OK...I have cleaned up your drawing using the Overkill, -Purge and Audit commands. I had to WBlock out everything in model space to get rid of another 30-40 blocks. Finally, I did a copy/paste between that WBlock drawing and a new drawing which I have named NepalHouse. The new drawing uses imperial units (architectural) and has five layouts called Plan-Exist, Plan-Prop, North, West and South. All the viewports have been set to utilize a scale of 1/8"=1'-0" and all have had their display locked so the scale is not inadvertently changed. The paper size I used is imperial (8.5 x 11) which is roughly equivalent to A4 (210 x 297). All layouts are have their orientation set to Portrait. So my question now is "What's next?"

No response? So be it.

I did a "save as" and now have a second version of the drawing called NepalHouse-A4 x. I went back into each layout and clicked on Page Setup Manager. I changed the printer choice to "None" and the paper size to ISO A4. When I made this change the Plot Scale became "Custom" where 1 mm = 0.03937 unit. However, if you activate any of the five viewports you'll find the scale remains 1/8"=1'. I've attached a copy of the drawing file below. It has been saved in 2010 file format. That's the best I can do at this point. It could be right or it could be wrong. I have no idea as I don't work in metric units but I believe I have satisfied both of your requirements (A4 paper and 1/8"=1' scale). It's up to you to figure out what to do when you enlarge the print on your photocopier to fit on a A3 size sheet of paper. Good luck and have fun.

The metric system has been the official system in Nepal since 1968. It may be that the project is being done by a US General Contractor, thus the Imperial measurements. Have a look at the Wiki for the Nepalese traditional measurement system if you think converting Imperial/metric is tough. Holy moses.

A4 -> A3 1.41 or root 2 this is the metric rule A1-A2-A3-A4-A5

Our photocopier has scale 141% but like Remark you may need to adjust the normal plot scale by a fraction when enlarging to the A3 to cater for miniscule scale stretch or shrink.

brother i created this and i used autocad 2015 to create this, one elevation and one section is still to be created. and as far as possible i am trying to print these all in one sheet with title box and all.. is this possible given the case i mentioned earlier. if not please help how can i submit these drawings to municipality.

thank you brother for you immense support. i need to submit these drawings to municipality in A3 paper but the grawing must still be in the scale. and is it even possible to accomodate all these drawings to one A3 paper?

No, you cannot get all the different views using a scale of 1/8"=1' and have them fit on a single A3 size sheet.

By the way, I believe a metric scale of 1:50 would be very close to an imperial scale of 1/4"=1' which would be twice as large as 1/8"=1' meaning a 1:50 scale for two floor plans and three elevations will definitely not fit on an A3 size sheet of paper.

I think if all five views had to be shown on an A3 sheet of paper you would have to use a scale of 1:200 metric or 1/16"=1'-0".

Did you download and open the drawing I provided earlier?

There is no need for them to be on one sheet, is there? I can't see anyone expecting building plans submissions to require squeezing them down to one single page. How in the world would one get a large apartment building on one A3 sheet?

yes i did open it brother. thank you.. i'll print them on different A4 and photocopy it to A3 individually.

If you encounter this in the future and aren't lucky enough to get some one like remark to work on the files, i would suggest setting your paper space up as an A3 and then force the printer to print that paper space as a A4. When you blow it back up to an A3 it should be off a little but might be close enough to get you by.
