kay scarpetta Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 hi, I am new in Autocad. I have my 3D geometry.. I need to export to .stl, each time i get attached error.. Can any one please help me? thanks Kay Quote
BKT Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Hi Kay, Can you verify that what you are selecting is a 3D SOLID? You mention 3D geometry - maybe check properties of that geometry to confirm. Quote
kay scarpetta Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 hi.. Is it possible for me to send you my dwg file.? thanks heaps Kay Quote
BKT Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Just checking first - did you actually select any geometry when you tried to export the STL file? Seeing the *Cancel* at the select command in your snapshot makes it seem as if you didn't actually complete the selection (thanks, Cad64). If you'd like to post a file, I believe the size limit is 1 MB, but I haven't had to post one myself. Someone else may want to chime in here, but I believe that you'll need use the "Go Advanced" link at the bottom right of the reply area to be able to post a file. Once there, you can use the paperclip link to attach a DWG. BKT Quote
kay scarpetta Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 well, i opened my dwg file and then did file export to .stl.. thats all.. i can clearly see my 3D shapes.. Quote

kay scarpetta Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 a quick overview of my 3D shapes... Quote
kay scarpetta Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 here is when i select the shapes first then do the export.. Quote
steven-g Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 You can upload the file to dropbox (free account sign up) and then post the link to the file here, but it certainly looks like you don't have 3D solids in your drawing. Quote
kay scarpetta Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 hi.. i can assure you i myself drew the 3D file in Global Mapper then exported to .dwg and opened in Autocad.. now i need to export to .stl. here is the dropbox link https://www.dropbox.com/s/bcruxit7xbnm17r/make.DWG?dl=0 Quote
BKT Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 As steven-g says, they don't appear to be 3D Solids. Verify your selections. Quote
kay scarpetta Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 check the file i sent via Dropbox Dear BKT... thanks for all help kay Quote
Cad64 Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Your objects are not Solids. They are merely 3D polylines. You will need to recreate the objects in Autocad as 3D Solids if you wish to export them to .stl format. Quote
kay scarpetta Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 can u please show me how to do this?? thanks heaps Quote
kay scarpetta Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 Dear CAD64, am trying the extrude command but am not obtaining any thing.. can u please tell me some steps? I am very new to autocad... Quote
BKT Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Why not just export to a STL file from Global Mapper? Looks like that's an option under their Export -> 3D Formats... Quote
Cad64 Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Dear CAD64,am trying the extrude command but am not obtaining any thing.. can u please tell me some steps? I am very new to autocad... Sorry, I have my own deadlines today. Just look on YouTube for Autocad 3D tutorials. Quote

Looks like that's an option under their Export -> 3D Formats... trust me the stl from GM does not work correctly.. hence why i had to move to autocad...can u show me hwo to convert polylines to 3D solids? kay scarpetta Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 Sorry, I have my own deadlines today. Just look on YouTube for Autocad 3D tutorials. i understand. can u tell me if i have to do it manually 1 by 1? Quote
Cad64 Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 i understand.can u tell me if i have to do it manually 1 by 1? You can extrude multiple closed polylines at the same time, but you will have to adjust the height for each building manually, 1 by 1. Quote
