Hello

Is it possible to set the solid properties in order to get the effect shown on the right side of the picture ?

What exactly is it that you are trying to achieve? Is it that one solid is opaque while the other is translucent?

Yes, solid A is transparent, Solid B is not transparent

The obvious answer is to use subtract but then you get 3 parts and I take it you only want 2.

I would like to make it so there were only 2 solids.

The solid "A" does not show what is inside, but it shows what is behind it.

You are speaking neither of wire frame nor hidden (shaded) visual style... You can't have both at the same time, so theoretically and practically this is impossible... You can only make illusion like in your posted pictures...
