mclevel Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Hello. Can someone help me on creating a cross section showing layers of soil? I still cant figure out how to it. I only know how to create a section and profile view of the ground. Thank you. Quote
BIGAL Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 The other software that I use is capable of having 8 surfaces in a cross section etc so easy answer. As far as I know Civ3d can not do this, if I am wrong some one will soon correct. As a workaround you can plot cross sections and paste them together to get the desired result. Quote
Tiger Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 You want to have one surface and in a section show layers under that surface? I would create multiple surfaces - or perhaps a corridor of some sort. Depends on what you are going to do with it. Perhaps use a Profile then you can use hatching to show off the layers. Quote
BlackBox Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Simplest way I know of, is to sample multiple surfaces. Start with your base (existing?) surface, create a new surface, expand the new surface's definition using edit node to paste (your base) surface, and then raise/lower accordingly. Rinse, wash, repeat. Cheers Quote
BIGAL Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 What I was talking about is having 8 surfaces and you just pick them as a list for which ones you want in your cross sections do 1pass when extracting etc very useful for borehole logging plans. same thing with long sections up to 8 strings can be plotted at one time, or when we talk about civ3D this is stuff that has been around since 1980 don't start on the stuff that is just missing in civ3d. I didn't mean to comment either for, or against the unnamed application you speak of; just trying to help OP. As for what Civil 3D is missing, there's a SincPac for that - and if not, I have an NDA with Jeff from SincPac, and am always happy to tinker with .NET API for new features. Cheers Quote
BIGAL Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 thanks Blackbox not having a go I was a state dual state Manager for the alternative product for around 10 years. Brings me back to a meeting with a Autodesk representative demo at the time the grading function just asked the simple question can we have cut =fill on a pad OHHHH just alter level and reiterate and then do vol cal, it was an option in our 1980 software! Just do it. Quote
