Sengna Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 (edited) What is the correct way to show the top view for this 24 inch steel sweep at 45 degree turn? I tried to project line from the front view but wonder if this is the correct way to do it. it doesn't look right , how would you guys do? Sengna Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 It involves 3 ellipses Awesome, works for me thank you paulmcz Quote
paulmcz Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I hope that you realize that, although it looks realistic in this specific case, the two elliptic arcs are only an approximation of the contour. As you turn the elbow more upright, the elliptic arcs will no longer fit the true contour. Quote
Sengna Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 hmmm, interesting so when i pick the center of the ellispes, it's just the end of the sweep intersect with the center line that projected from below right? Just want to make sure. Quote
paulmcz Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Yes, something like that. Here is a drawing that will show you some other cases. It gets complicated with different elbow tilt angles. SWP-p.dwg Quote
nestly Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Same thing... without any construction geometry. Quote
paulmcz Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Excellent, well done Nestly, as always. Quote
nestly Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I've done that a thousand times before I started doing everything in 3D, now I just sweep a circle around an arc and FLATSHOT it.... done! Quote
