How do I get the other axle to align? The need is to have the axes 1 and 2 to align. As you can see the other end has aligned okay.

The scissor arms are independent

and the adjuster arm moves

but I get spat out when I ask Inventor to align 1 and 2.

I'd send the relevant Inventor files but together they are too big to attach.

All help appreciated.

Still trying to get this to work. This is, perhaps, a better view of the problem.

The object is still to align 1 and 2.

I have grounded the pivot arm (the one that goes into the centre of the 'X') and everything moves relative to it. Everything, that is, except that the adjuster (at the far end in this view) does not move along the adjuster shaft. The adjustment device is inserted here as an assembly. When you look at the adjustment device assembly, the adjuster moves along the shaft, and rotates around it, and the handle slides to and fro.

Flexible comes in very handy and often overlooked. Clad you found it :)
