triangolo Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Hi everyone, I have a problem regarding the trimming of a surface. I have to cut a surface with another surface, after that I need to delete the cutting surface. But what I get is that the surface that I trimmed returns to the previous shape. What do I need to do in order to maintain the trimmed surface? Thanks very much Quote
ReMark Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 (edited) Did you use the SLICE command or the TRIM command? The correct answer is SLICE. Example: Slicing one surface with another using the SLICE command and Surface option. We are slicing the magenta surface with the white surface and discarding the right half (shown in yellow above). End result at right. Hint: Pay close attention to what AutoCAD is asking you at the command line. Got it? Good. Now you try. Edited June 17, 2014 by ReMark Quote
nestly Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Make sure the cutting surface extends all the way to the edge (or completely through) the surface to be trimmed. Quote
triangolo Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 Hi everyone, I tried as suggested by ReMark on two simple surfaces and it worked like a charm. slice->I select the surface that I need to slice->enter->I type "surface"->select the surface->select the sliced object that I want to keep->delete the surface that I used to slice = works great! But then I tired the same with my file and it doesn't slice the surface. In the picture above I created a fictitious surface (the white one) that I want to use to cut the selected surface (yellow one that is selected). I tried as suggested by ReMark but the surface doesn't get sliced. Any idea? Quote
nestly Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Can you post a sample drawing as JD suggested? If it's not Slicing, AutoCAD should indicate the reason the command failed at the command line. Quote
triangolo Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 Please, find the file attached. versione forum.dwg Nope, autocad doesn't write what went wrong. Thank everyone for the kind help Quote
SEANT Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 . . . . What do I need to do in order to maintain the trimmed surface? . . . . Use the BREP command on the trimmed surface before deleting the trimming surface. Quote
triangolo Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 Exactly what I needed! Works perfectly Many thanks SEANT! Quote
