TED Jordan Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Hi, I have a very specific set of joined shapes I have to rotate from 0 through 90 degrees over 1500mm. the start and finish shape have to be parallel and I can just about loft it in autocad but that leaves me with a twisted 3D solid... in inventor it lofts it but not as well somehow... how could I go about unfolding it afterwards? whats the best extra add-on that could cope with this? TED Jordan Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 I've attached the dwg here You can see what I mean by opening the file, Its been lofted through several secions along the same path, I need each individual piece laid out and unfolded to be cut by our laser. What software would you recommend? Any help is greatly appreciated Jordan Twist.dwg Quote

JD Mather Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 the .ipt part is 815kb which means I cant upload it here :-/Jordan Find the red End of Part marker at the bottom of browser. Drag the red EOP marker to the top of the feature tree. This will significantly reduce the file size. Save the file with the red EOP in this rolled up state. Right click on the filename and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder. This will reduce the file size even more. Attach the resulting *.zip file here. Quote
TED Jordan Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 That's an excellent tip, thankyou Apologies for the wait, I couldn't get access to the file until now. Please see attached. Jordan Twist.ipt Quote
JD Mather Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Ah, when you wrote Spiral, I wasn't thinking Helix. Is there a reason you used Loft rather than the Coil - Helix in Inventor? I do not know how to flatten a Helix in Inventor or AutoCAD (other than by manual development). Quote
TED Jordan Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 JD No aftermarket programmes you can think of? Loft was used only because the centreline changes direction, and it ends up not quite parallel in plan view. I've attached the file using coil, If you could recommend a way to uncoil this I can work with it! Jordan Coil Twist 250ml Can.ipt Quote
