fishwater71 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Having issues getting the smaller section done. The branch width should be 3/4. I have the angles correct at 60. Thanks for the help. Final project-snowflake.dwg Snow Flake drawing.pdf Quote
ReMark Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 It might help if you drew the remaining centerlines. You do know you can change the angle of your crosshairs too right? There are probably a handful of different ways the drawing could be done. Quote

Oh wait......just trying to do the detail section of the pick at the moment. crosshairs? Thanks Remark, sometimes it is little things like this that I get stuck on. Quote
ReMark Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) I'm not on my CAD computer but if you need me to demonstrate something then just say so and I'll switch over. I'd finish off what you have currently, by rotating the smaller arm, then use the ARRAY command to complete the whole design. Edited May 8, 2014 by ReMark Quote
fishwater71 Posted May 9, 2014 Author Posted May 9, 2014 Final project-snowflake.dwg This is what I have so far. I was trying to trim all the excess, but for some reason it wouldnt let me. Any ideas? It wont let me trim anything......just says "cannot trim this object." Quote
ReMark Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) Can't trim? I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the new version of the ARRAY command groups all the geometry into a block. Explode and trim. When you are done trimming run the Overkill command on your snowflake. You may discover you have a few duplicate and overlapping lines. OK will clean them up for you. Done. I went back and took another look at your drawing. It appears that the two short arms that angle off either side of the long arm are not the correct width. Yours have a width of 5/8" but the PDF shows a width of 3/4". You are going to have to fix that. Edited May 9, 2014 by ReMark Quote
ReMark Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Something doesn't look quite right here. Notice the jaggies? Might want to check the angles on these lines (change your angle precision to 0.0000). Did you mirror one arm to the other side or did you construct the one circled above independently? Quote
fishwater71 Posted May 9, 2014 Author Posted May 9, 2014 Thanks Remark. I mirrored the left side off of the right side. lol Will post results again in a bit. Quote
fishwater71 Posted May 9, 2014 Author Posted May 9, 2014 Alright, unable to get anything to trim. Have no idea why, this is a first. Any idea how to fix this? When I click just to delete a line, it selects the entire snowflake as well. ugggg. Basically, it wont let me do anything unless I erase the entire drawing. Quote
ReMark Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Did you follow my advice to use Explode first? I know it works because I did it using the drawing to provided last. Quote

ReMark Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Yes, Explode. I mentioned it previously at the end of my first sentence in post #6. OK...I just tried it again and Explode will work. Go. Do. Now. Quote
JD Mather Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 .... Go. Do. Now. 2 min 38 sec https://chronicle.autodesk.com/Main/Details/ddef810b-fd56-40cc-abbe-55f51a100c69 Went. Did. Next? Quote
ReMark Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Slowing down in your old age JD? Here's a challenge for you. Find the post re: tapered pipe threads. The OP needs some assistance drawing the "real deal". I suggested using a simplified representation but he is stubbornly resistant to the idea. He specifically said he had no idea how to draw them. ReMark Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Nice trike. Pedal powered too. Sweeeeeet. Now all you need is the black leather jacket with the "SONS OF ANARCHY" patch. Quote
JD Mather Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 .... with the "SONS OF ANARCHY" patch. I think I will stick with my new "Snowflake" patch. Quote
fishwater71 Posted May 9, 2014 Author Posted May 9, 2014 Thanks JD so much. Exactly what I needed. I had no idea you could just make the rectangle and rotate it. Much easier. Working on it now. Cool trike BTW. Quote
JD Mather Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I figured out how to shave a few more seconds off of the process. 1. The obvious - where I missed that one line in the first mirror. 2. The advanced technique - use a sacrificial construction circle and extrim command to trim out all those lines in the middle. Quote
