Sengna Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Sounds like really simple question, How can i set the color by its layer? everytime i draw any obj,line.....eventhough i has set the color i want on the layer manager but when i drew, it always showed in red and i have to keep switch by layer via quick properties. is there a way to set the color by layer not default to red? ReMark Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Is it possible you have it overridden on the Layer Properties panel? Quote
Dana W Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 There are also object properties override buttons on the Properties tab or tool bar, for color, line type and line weight. If these are not set to by layer, every object drawn will ignore the layer color, line type and line weight, no matter what layer is current and accept the "Default" properties you are giving it through the properties tool bar (or Tab). Dadgad Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 (edited) Use the COLOR command, it is currently set to RED, and will override the BY LAYER color property in your layer manager definition. Reset it with the COLOR command to BY LAYER. Have you got an Autocad coworker who is a trickster and having a little fun at your expense? If you suspect that is the case, and choose to respond in kind, then reset the miscreant's SPACESWITCH system variable to 0. Then discreetly sit back and peripherally enjoy the show. Should you find yourself heading down that slippery slope, just for a laugh, I would strongly suggest you save a .svf (system variable file) at the bottom of the SYSVDLG dialog box, first, and put it somewhere safe. It is always a good thing to do, and have as a backup, as insurance against the inevitable CADaclysmic system failure, or even coworker monkey business. Edited April 29, 2014 by Dadgad Quote
Dana W Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Yeah, that ^^^^^^^ is a much simpler explanation of the way to access the object color property. There are those that don't even know there is a properties tool bar (ribbon tab) Quote
JD Mather Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 All of this should be set up in your template file. Set it and forget it. Attach your template here if you can't figure it out. Quote
Sengna Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 Same as above... Nestly, how did you get the "By layer drop down menu"? I don't have that on my screen, can't find that Via CUI. (sorry it took me so long to reply, been busy) Quote
nestly Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 It's part of the "Properties" toolbar. I'm just in the habit of having it displayed, but pretty much anything you do from there applies a property "over-ride", so if any of the "Properties" are anything except "ByLayer" it means you're being bad... LOL If no object(s) are selected, it shows the current Color (which should be ByLayer), the current Linetype (which should be ByLayer), and the current LineWeight (which should be ByLayer). If object(s) are selected, it shows the "properties" of those objects and allows you to "over-ride" them. It basically shows the same information that's at the top of the Properties Palette. In the CUI, look for the "Properties" toolbar, but you can also right-click on any unused area in the toolbars to display a list of toolbars for each CUI. Also don't forget to WSSAVE if you make changes to the workspace outside the CUI, otherwise they won't be retained. Quote

Thank for everyone inputs for helping me.I may have missunderstood that you were having trouble finding the toolbars. To add or remove a tool bar, simply right click the in the blank part of the toolbar area of your program window. There will be an AutoCad selection. Click that and you will be shown a list of the built in toolbars you can clutter up your screen with. Using the ribbon versions, you can add or remove panels and tabs the same way, except you can right click just about anywhere on the ribbon. Quote
