Tutorial Guide to AutoCad 2014 exercise 4.6 interchange.

Need some help completing this. I see where to start my circle 60 from the vertical lanes, but not sure where from the horizontal lanes.

Interchange, exercise 4.6, pg 188.dwg.........this is what I have so far.

140 feet as per the image.

BTW...one of your horizontal lines has a constraint applied to it. I don't see where that is specified in the exercise. And you're drawing in inches; the dimensions are given in feet.

You might also want to make another layer, other than Defpoints, the current layer. [Note that several of your lines are on this layer.] Anything drawn on the Defpoints layer will not plot and in rare cases, if layer "0" is frozen for some reason, objects on the Defpoints layer may not be selectable. That will drive you crazy.

Change your units to either architectural or engineering. When you input your distances make sure to include the sign for feet.

Your centerline linetype scale will have to be quite large to display properly. Try 1000 and see how that looks.

BTW...the little cross you see is the centerpoint of the 140' radius curve.

Alright Remark, should be better now. I see your cross, but not sure how you got that location. I see it's 60 ft from the vertical lane, which I marked in red. Not sure how to change the line type scale on just the centerline. Thanks again.

I told you how to get that location. Offset the lowest horizontal line 140 feet and where it intersects with a line offset from the leftmost vertical line that will be your intersection point.

You can change the linetype scale either globally, via the LTSCALE command, or you can select a line, go to Properties and change the linetype scale. To change the remaining lines that are similar to it use the Match Properties format tool.

Alright, getting there. Now trying to get the circles done for the 15' and the 50' radius in the pic. Tried many different circle settings, but none are working for me. Which setting for the circle should I use on those? Need help making this work. Thanks again.

Those circles can be drawn using the Circle command and the Tan-Tan-Radius option. That's how I did it. If for some reason you can't get it to work then you could always use the old fallback method of offsetting lines/arcs the required distance (equal to the radius) and where they intersect is the centerpoint of your circle. Got it?

Another option would be to use the Fillet command and the appropriate radius but first you'll have to trim away some unnecessary lines so you end up with the correct result. Your choice.

FYI - If you want to smooth out your circles so they don't look like they are constructed a many small line segments change the system variable VIEWRES at the command line from the default of 100 to 5000. When asked if you want to enable fast zooms answer "yes".
