Using AutoCAD 2011, and I'm having issues printing to scale. I created everything in model space full size. I then went to the layout tabs and created a layout with multiple viewports. I put each viewport in a scale using the pull down tab (viewport scale). In the Page Setup, Plot area was assigned: Layout, and Plot scale was assigned: 1:1. However, when I print out the drawing, regardless of what scale a viewport is put it in, it prints out slightly larger than the assigned scale.

What am I missing?

Is this a metric or imperial drawing?

What size paper are you plotting to?

Did you work in any of the viewports before you printed? If so, did you lock the viewport display after you were done?

Are you specifying a .pc3 file for the plotter and did you go through the calibration procedure when creating that .pc3?

Drawing is drawn in architectural units. Paper size is 11x17. Negative on working in the viewports before printing.

Ok, I must admit you lost me at ".pc3 file". I guess I need to look into what that is.

Attach a copy of the drawing file to your next post. Someone here will take a look at it. If you're lucky maybe they will even do a test print to 11x17 and tell you how it came out.

Just to make sure that there was nothing in the drawing I was using that was screwing things up, I created a brand new drawing. Still having the same issue as before, except this time I put one of the viewports in 3"=1'0" scale, and that scale actually prints out correctly!?

I've attached the file in question as requested.

Thanks for any and all help!

In case it helps, I'm printing out on an HP Business Inkjet 2800.

My test plot scales perfectly. Stop by, I'll make you a couple of prints.

The settings I used.

BTW...you should consider locking your viewports' display so the scales do not get inadvertently changed.

Ha! Now that's funny; a good laugh is always appreciated. Thanks!

Ok, well I guess it's good to know that I've configured things properly. What's interesting is that it prints out correctly in 3"=1'0" scale, but it's just slightly off in the other scales (measures a bit bigger than it should). Do I need to look into this .pc3 file thing that Rkent was mentioning?

I haven't looked into calibrating a plotter since the days of my old HP7585 technical pen plotter.

Do you have another printer you can send the drawing to?

theatercad: Are you all squared away now as far as your printing problem is concerned?
