jkristia Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I don’t really know where this question goes, so I will ask it here in general. I’m working on the front elevation of my house. I added hatching for the brick, boards and shingles, but I thought it looked a bit too busy, so I tried to break up the hatching areas, but I’m not sure I like that either. I googled ‘front elevation’ images to get some ideas of how it is done, but I still can’t get the right look – not sure what that look is, but I need to do something about the hatching, or maybe skip it all together. Any suggestions? Jesper Quote
architecture68-raff Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Two things I would suggest for a better look: 1. Screen the hatches on your elevations. I typically use a 25% screen for these patterns. It allows for material indication, but yet does not overpower the drawing. 2. Make better use of varying lineweights in your drawing. By using heavier linewieghts at points of separation, you will achieve a better sense of depth perception and the drawings will look less monotonous. I do notice some slight variation in use from your attachment, but perhaps consider making the differences more pronounced. Quote
jkristia Posted December 1, 2008 Author Posted December 1, 2008 can you explain what you mean by "screen the hatches", I just googled for it and I found a thread on the forum about using solids hatches for shading, is that what you mean or something else ? Quote
nocturne00 Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Screening is the reduction of a color's tint. in black and white printing its how you control emphasis of lines via greyscaling. Hatches are usually placed on layers that have screened colors to reduce emphasis on them. it can be toggled here Quote
jkristia Posted December 1, 2008 Author Posted December 1, 2008 ok I'm missing something here. Yes I see if I go in to the plot dialog that I can pick a plot style, but how do I assign this style only to the hatch layer, and can I get it to show the 'semi transparent' color on the screen ? Quote
nocturne00 Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Screen the color you are using for the hatch. for example, if you are using color 250 for your hatch, go to the plot style table editor then screen color 250 to about lets say 60 or 70. and if you want it really light, go for less than 50,,, but thats goint to be very light Quote
