soleary Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 This is controlled by the 'tempoverrides' system variable. With it set to 1 the shift key can be used like described above or with other keys for other commands. Funnily enough, I actually never use them And of course you can change these in the customisation file Quote
bonehead411 Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 It isn't madness, that is how Shift works and has for several releases. Start line command, pick a point, hold Shift down, Ortho is toggled off or on, release it and the toggle goes back. It has been so long since '04 I don't remember if that was there already, if not there probably isn't a way, not an easy one any way. i think we all assumed that it was a permanent toggle the OP was asking for, now it doesn't seem like it is, which makes more sense. Don't know what/where to control the temp-toggles so to speak, but it would be good to know - so anyone know where their settings is stored? I too had assumed a permanent toggle. I'm using 2005 LT and that method doesn't work for me rkent. Too bad really, I like the idea of a temporary shift override for ORTHO. Quote
Strix Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 does that mean there was a version where it was introduced, or that there's a setting somewhere that can be altered? Quote

Too bad really, I like the idea of a temporary shift override for ORTHO. I'm not using LT (so not sure if these work in LT) but are you holding down the shift key while in a command? A little symbol comes up by the cross hairs. When these first came out I was a bit confused because, for example, SHIFT + A for these temporary overrides means hold down the 'shift' key and also HOLD DOWN the 'A' key. From 'normal' typing, I was used to holding down the 'shift' key and then hitting the 'A' key and releasing it. Quote
Tiger Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 It was introduced in 2006. and in the CUI window, under Keyboard Shortcuts > Temporary override Keys you'll find all the temp overrides that is standard. Quote
Sarah H Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Holding shift while in Ortho does turn it off... what's the problem with that? Quote
dbroada Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Holding shift while in Ortho does turn it off... what's the problem with that? but not in the version the OP is using Quote
fuccaro Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Im using old 2004 version. ...and a quote from here: http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?p=77858#post77858 Forgot to change the version to 2007! The first quote is newer so I would say that you were downgraded Quote
GE13579 Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 so who's going to post it in the tips thread? I posted in the Tips & Tricks some time ago about this- http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showpost.php?p=172691&postcount=183  Quote
Dipali Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 yeh, same as Dbroada & tiger, I learnt something new today & it is very useful for me because I have the habit of keeping the 'polar' & 'otrack' on all the time, but not the 'ortho' Quote
yawdapaah Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Thanks GE13579, I've been looking for this for a while . Quote
