ksc Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Hi all. I have done a drawing of some house plans. I am now trying to enter text in model space, but when i enter it, it appears very small at 2.5, only if i enter at 500 it appears ok. In the layout tab the text at 500 appears very large, and when i enter 2.5 it appears ok. Can anyone please help me solve this proplem. I have not made any changes anywhere. Many thanks ksc Quote
ReMark Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 (edited) Your text in model space needs to be "annotative". If you want to put it in your layout instead then it does not have to be "annotative". What scale is assigned to your viewport? What size paper will you be plotting to? What are the overall dimensions of your floor plan (length x width)? In regards to text placed within a layout: Annotation objects created in paper space on a layout should be created at full size because layouts are commonly plotted at a 1:1 scale. For example, text created with a height of 2.5mm in paper space will be output at 2.5mm unless a scale other than 1:1 is used to plot the layout. A plot scale of 1:1 in a drawing created using a metric template equates to 1mm = 1 drawing unit. Edited December 26, 2013 by ReMark Quote
ReMark Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Annotation Scaling - Commands and System Variables. Becoming familiar with the above will be important should you choose to use the annotative scaling feature. Annotative scaling can be used with Text, Mtext Dimensions, Blocks, Hatches, Multileaders, Tolerances and Attributes. What is the advantage? "The user can have multiple scales in the same drawing without having to duplicate the content at different scales on separate layers. This technique enables the user to choose what will be seen and at what scale." Source: Isaac Harper - Cadsoft Consulting Quote
ReMark Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 An example of using annotative text in a metric drawing. See that "blob" I circled near the lower left hand corner of the rectangle? That's five lines of DTEXT over in model space with the following heights (mm): 2.5, 5, 10, 25 and 50. Those lines of text are not annotative. Quote
ReMark Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 KC: Have you made any progress given the information I have provided? Quote
ksc Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 Hi ReMark, yes thanks for ur help, when i enter text in model space i give it a scale that i am going to plot at and in layout it appears the same aswell. Thanks very much. Quote
ReMark Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 So you are using annotative scaling then right? Quote
ksc Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 That is right, but text is best entered in layout is that correct? Quote
ReMark Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Text as in notes or callouts? Any callouts like "2x4 Stud Wall" could be placed in model space just like your dimensions. Just make sure your text is annotative. Construction notes I would place in the layout along with all the title block information. Quote
ksc Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 Sorry to bother you again, i am now having trouble with adding dimensions to the drawings, they are appearing very small. I have tried to modify them but still no joy. Maybe i am doing something really silly, please help. Thanks Quote
ReMark Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Your dimensions have to be annotative assuming you are placing them in model space. Quote
SuperCAD Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 When you format your dimensions you have to select the Annotative option on the "Fit" tab. Make sure that your dimension/text sizes are what you want them to print at. In model space, in the lower right hand corner, look for the "Annotative Scale" icon and select the scale that you want to print at. Your dimensions/text will be scaled so they print at the correct height. Quote
