Hello good people.

The AutoCAD video tutorials on the site such as "AutoCAD 2010_ 01 Getting Ready for 3D" show a 3D UCS icon which has some nice arrows at the end of each axis, this looks similar to the icon in Solidworks.

Has there been some change in design to this icon from 2010 to 2014? The UCS 3D icon in the version 2014 that i'm running does not have these arrows and i'm ******ed if I can find a setting to have it display in this way, it certainly doesn't show up in any of the visual styles eg xray, conceptual or realistic. I've not found any info anywhere documenting the change, if any.

Here is a pic from the above mentioned video tutorial with arrows on UCS:

Here is a pic from 2013-2014 UCS with no arrows.

I can only help you by saying it looks the same on my 2014-version.

It seems there is a 'Cone' setting in the USC Settings dialogue box in AutoCAD 2010 which is probably the function to display the arrows. Perversely, in the 2011-14 this is not present.

AutoDESK refers to those as "cones" not arrows. In the generic version of 2014 "cones" as an option was removed.

Well, there we are, cones indeed, have vanished. I wonder if these were removed in part due to their similarity to the gizmos?

AutoDesk just wanted to get rid of pointy-headed people. Ditching the cones was the first step in world domination by round-headed people.

"UCS Icon. Don’t like the new simplified UCS icon? Sorry! While you can use the UCSIcon command’s Properties option to change the appearance of the icon in various ways, there’s nothing to restore the UCS Icon’s appearance from previous releases with its little arrows pointing the way."

Well, that settles that then, nice find ReMark, and thanks.

I vaguely remembered that at some point AutoDESK decided to do away with the cones but all along I thought it was in AutoCAD 2013. After a fruitless search I started working my way backwards through the releases thus finally encountering the information I was seeking. A tenth cup of coffee also helped in clearing up my confusion.

Glad to be of service. You're entirely welcomed. :)
