DSESTaylor Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Hey, I am trying to make this conic shape for a fabric umbrella project. I have the outline in poly lines with the top column 3m below. I am just struggling to create a surface to represent the fabric membrane using the surface or mesh tools. Any pointers would be very appreciated! Quote
scj Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Upload your model. I try to do it for you. Regards Jochen http://www.black-cad.de Quote
DSESTaylor Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 Here the drawing I have done so far. If you manage it let me know how! Drawing1.dwg Quote
scj Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Here we go. I only unfolded one segment - please check, if the heigth of the canopy is correct (my drawing is 3D). Good luck Jochen Drawing1_scj.dwg Quote
ReMark Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 The OP wrote: "Any pointers would be very appreciated!" So, what pointers do you have to share scj? Other forum members might benefit from your knowledge. Quote
scj Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I used the unfolding software from http://www.ant-ares.de Regards Jochen Quote
ReMark Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I guess I must have read it wrong. I thought the OP wanted to know how to create the fabric in 3D. Quote
DSESTaylor Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 Thanks for having a go. I can see what you done with the polylines but I was hoping to get a smooth 3d surface like ReMark said. The polylines show in the print out. I can achieve a surface on sketchup using the bubble and soap plug-in but it not very professional. Any one got any experience with fabric structures would be greatly appreciated Quote
guran Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Can't you just do one segment att the time using loft and guides? Quote
ReMark Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 You could also do it using the EDGESURF command. Just create the necessary base geometry. Quote
Titi95 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 (edited) Hello this is what I did with splines and smoothing tool. The file : https://www.dropbox.com/s/ssagqe21ngj0adc/Drawing1%20by%20Titi95.dwg The central part must be hollow to evacuate the water'' in my opinion ... Edited October 21, 2013 by Titi95 Quote
ReMark Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Looks great but could we get a few more details about how you actually did it? Thanks. Quote
Titi95 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 (edited) I'm not very good at explaining in English. So here is the video method (speed art, my first) ... Some modeling errors could be avoided which would save time. Normal time 30min Edited October 21, 2013 by Titi95 Quote
Titi95 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 DSESTaylor is that you ca will answer? It's always nice to get feedback when you responded. Quote
DSESTaylor Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Sorry! I been so busy trying to sort out my team! It is perfect I am just having trouble creating it myself without a step by step as I have about 6 other similar models I need to create and my abilities in Autocad 3D are somewhat lacking haha! Thanks so much! Quote
marmo Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Really nice and very good render. I think we could get more precision, for example the umbrella- flower in the first picture has 6 or 8 sides? Quote
