byk3bep Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I am wondering is there a command that can let me find the center of mass for a linear object. In particular I need to find the center of mass for an arc. Any suggestions would be appreciated Thx for your help Quote
Mike_Taylor Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Ensure you have a closed poyline, use the REGION command to create a region, then use the MASSPROP command and it will give you the coordinates of your centroid, your moment of inertia etc. Quote
neophoible Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Interesting that this is coming up again so soon. Is this some sort of HW? Post #13 in this thread has a few centroid formulae for arcs and sectors: http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?81498-center-of-pressure-%28center-of-weight-for-line-segment-and-arc-segment%29 Quote

neophoible Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 You're welcome. You didn't say what it's for. Care to tell? Quote
byk3bep Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 Of course not Doing master thesis... I's for positioning the lifting straps for an arch segment made out of laminated wood. Here is a pic of the final position and the dimensions (units are in cm) so u might get a better idea. Cross section is 20/120cm... All ideas and suggestions are appreciated Quote
