Lee Mac Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Not at the Swamp anymore. Was tired of being ridiculed and belittled constantly so I left there. That's a real shame I am personally only really interested in participating in the technical programming threads, but of the few times that I have stumbled across the more 'political' discussions, I have witnessed some of the strong opinions that are shared and so I can understand how you could become embroiled in an unsavoury exchange - its a shame to see you leave though! I've always felt more at home on this forum so this is my main stomping grounds for AutoCAD stuff. I spend more time on Revit forums nowadays due to shifts in market demand. I agree - the two forums have a completely different atmosphere - but I feel that both have their place in the CAD community spectrum. In my opinion, the Swamp is far more programming oriented, and consequently attracts some very knowledgeable programmers from whom I continuously learn a great deal and so I personally find the Swamp more edifying in this respect; whereas CADTutor focusses more on the CAD side of things - but I still very much enjoy participating at both venues Quote
tzframpton Posted September 9, 2013 Author Posted September 9, 2013 Yeah, that's why I chose to leave TheSwamp - because I'm not a programmer. I still give credit where credit is due to all who are members of The Swamp, but the writing was on the wall - certain people simply did not like me, nor did they want me there. My leaving was mutual, and I know when my welcome has been over-stayed. It wasn't even a matter of the 'political' discussions anymore. Some people just trailed me and made snide remarks no matter what discussion I was involved in. Those few already had their mind made up, which is a shame, but that's the way the world is sometimes. Some of the remarks, even though from anonymous people on a public forum, really where hurtful. I'm mostly involved in Revit nowadays, and this forum gives me everything that I need to continue to have a solid understanding of the continual evolving AutoCAD workflows, techniques and general knowledge. What's good, is that the Revit forums are getting more and more active and I've been spending a lot of time over there helping out people. But I still get tons of help from guys like you and BlackBox which is most excellent. Quote

I realise that there is far more 'banter' (I hate that word) at the Swamp, but I'd hate to think that any one person was being singled-out by the crowd I'm mostly involved in Revit nowadays, and this forum gives me everything that I need to continue to have a solid understanding of the continual evolving AutoCAD workflows, techniques and general knowledge. That's good to hear mate - Its great to have your participation here at CT, if nothing else but for the shots of epic home-made barbecues! Quote
BlackBox Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 There's too much to try and respond to everything, so trying to hit all of the key points.... For the record, I did not resort to 'name calling' at any point, but I apologise if you took offence from my post - this was not my intention, I was merely speaking my mind at the time. You have my apology, however, I stand by my assertion that the 'issue' was being exaggerated far beyond what was necessary. @Lee - So be it... Words have meaning, and you chose yours with purpose... There is only one intention for stating that another's comments were made for 'the sake of one-upmanship', and to 'not offend' isn't it. I apologize in advance if I facilitated some tense interaction; that was not my intent. You're most welcome Tannar, given your valuable contributions to this forum and indeed other forums (you still at the Swamp?), I am always willing to lend a hand. I'm sorry that the thread was sidetracked in this instance. @Tannar - You did nothing wrong, my friend... It's unfortunate that such a thing took place, frankly... Particularly so, when both Lee, and I share a similar motivation to help you in the first place. Had I made more time for the forums, and delivered first, I think the resulting comments would have been quite different. In hindsight, I should have simply stopped participating in this thread after your email this past weekend, but I felt truly vested in the idea, and attempted to express what I was actively putting together, instead. Honestly I did not get it that way you did BB , I know Lee that he does not have any intention to speak loudly even , but I understand that he is looking for the best performance of coding to the others the same technique that he does all the time . Thank you Tharwat, please know that I hold no ill-feelings towards you - I was simply informing you that the reactor needn't be triggered for every command issued. @Tharwat - I too thank you for the clarification... Over the years, I've often felt protective of those I've given friendship to. More so than others, and in many ways, you remind me of my little brother. Regardless, I should not have included you in my response. @Lee - I hope that you'll accept my retraction in this regard. Was tired of being ridiculed and belittled constantly... I've always felt more at home on this forum so this is my main stomping grounds ... the writing was on the wall - certain people simply did not like me, nor did they want me there. Some of the remarks, even though from anonymous people on a public forum, really where hurtful. @Lee - While I do find your comments in this thread particularly hurtful, this unsavoury exchange is not what I am talking about next. @Tannar - Despite my not participating in many political discussions, and obviously with different personalities, forums, etc. involved... I can relate to you in more than one way on this (and your other comments on the topic). It can be incredibly discouraging at times. You're rock-solid. You're a good person, and you do well by others. I could care less what someone's intentions are, God can judge that, I judge others by their actions... And you my friend, are someone that I look up to in this regard (there goes that unsolicited protectiveness again). LoL Keep doing you... Improvise, adapt, and overcome... Everything else will work out just as it was meant to be. I'm late, and have to run... Cheers to all. Quote
