Mase123y Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 When you make a diameter or radius dimension it always has this static extension line shown in red when you move the dimension far enough away. I can not seem to extend this extension line at all it is always the same length no matter what variable I change. Does anyone know how to lengthen this extension line? Quote
ReMark Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 That line is referred to as a "landing" I believe. Quote
Tuns Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) Right click the dimension and click properties. Under "lines & arrows" one of the properties will be called "ext line ext". Change the dimension there to whatever you need it to be. Edited August 16, 2013 by Tuns Quote
ReMark Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 And what exactly should the OP be looking for under Lines and Arrows? Would the dimension have to be annotative? Quote
Tuns Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 No. It does not need to be annotative. It's a dimension property. Quote
ReMark Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 And which dimension property is it? Don't be shy...share. Quote
Mase123y Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 From what I can google I dont see a way without lisp routines that can modify the dimension landing. Quote

ReMark Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Look at post #3. That's a reference to the length of the extension line beyond the dimension line is it not? Quote
ReMark Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 From what I can google I dont see a way without lisp routines that can modify the dimension landing. There is a way but it involves one subtle difference. And no, it is not via a lisp routine. Quote
nestly Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) The default landing length is the same size as the arrowhead. There is no easy way control them independently that I'm aware of. However, the landing was easily editable in 2011, but apparently they changed the priority of the options for 2012 and newer. The function is AIDIMTEXTMOVE which still exists in 2012. You can type that command at the command line and use "1", to move text (and landing length) or edit the CUI so that option is always available via the right click menu for dimensions. (Dimension, Text, Move with Leader) Edited August 16, 2013 by nestly mis-spelled command name Quote
ReMark Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Maybe the programmers at AutoDesk figured no one would be interested in changing the length of the landing after 2011. But there is another way it just doesn't come as a part of the dimension command unless one includes the multileader option. Now I am just talking about changing the length of the landing and nothing else. Of the three respondents I think nestly would be more apt to remember it. OK...you have until 3 p.m. EDST to come up with the answers peeps. I've got to walk the dog. Quote
nestly Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Maybe the programmers at AutoDesk figured no one would be interested in changing the length of the landing after 2011. ... and they may have been correct.... save one. Are you referring to an MLEADER with a field? Quote
Mase123y Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 Well I can add the command "Dimension, Text, Move with Leader" to the right click menu and that does seem to work for just extending the landing although it does change the way the arrows are situated inside the radii/circle. Quote
nestly Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Well I can add the command "Dimension, Text, Move with Leader" to the right click menu and that does seem to work for just extending the landing. So is that an acceptable option, or was your intention to change the default landing length for Diameter dimensions? (because I just thought of a possible way to do that too using a custom arrowhead and a child dimension style) Quote
ReMark Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I love a dog that knows how to take care of business quickly. LoL The command I was referring to happens to be QLEADER. Yes, I do realize that for what the OP wanted to address this does not work but it does allow the user to adjust the landing length. Quote
nestly Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 ....although it does change the way the arrows are situated inside the radii/circle. Can you screencap that as well if the change is objectionable? You should be able to "force" the appearance either through a global dimstyle change, or a radius/diameter dimstyle override (child dimstyle) Quote
Mase123y Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 Well this has to do with the Fit, I think, the arrows are no longer inside the circle. Forcing the dimension line just puts the arrows outside the circle. Quote

(Dimension, Text, Move with Leader) This seems like the best answer, by the way the command is AIDIMTEXTMOVE. I think you left an I out between D and M. Easy enough to add back into a menu somewhere. Forcing the dimension line just puts the arrows outside the circle. You may not be able to force the arrows inside if the circle is too large, but if you want both arrows, use "Draw dim line between ext lines" on the "Fit" fit tab. Create a child dimstyle if necessary. demo --> ... by the way the command is AIDIMTEXTMOVE. I think you left an I out between D and M... ...fixed Quote
