spiker7221 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 HELP! I'm modifying my custom tool palettes, but the AcTpCatalog.atc file is not updating at the same time. Am I missing something? This file keeps track of the palette tabs, correct? If my tabs are out of order, can I not edit this file and adjust the order? For example..... The AcTpCatalog.atc file is under my Division\Commercial\Tool Palettes folder, and each of the custom tabs reside in their respective sub-folder...Palettes, with Images as well. Scenerio: I make a change to the Palette manually in Autocad by drag-n-drop, close Autocad, and start back up again. The commands on the Palette are still in the old order. Somehow, Autocad is getting the tool order from another AcTpCatalog.atc file. Is this possible? Mike Quote
tzframpton Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 I've been one of the biggest advocates of Tool Palettes for a long, long time. Through the years, the one downfall that I've never been able to accomplish is one thing: to save the ordering of any new items added to a Tool Palette. I've never known of Tool Palettes to do this and it sucks. There very well may be but I've never found it. But I do know of a workaround. Create a new Palette, and rename it the exact name of the Palette you wish to modify, then go back to the Palette you want to modify. Ctrl+Select the first item, then Shift+Select the last item on the Palette so you can grab everything, then Ctrl+C to copy the Palette contents. Go to the new, fresh and empty Palette and right-click anywhere on the Palette and Paste. Add your new content and order as you wish. Right-click and Delete the old Palette, then restart AutoCAD. This creates a new ID# in the *.ATC file and AutoCAD sees it as a "new Palette" so the changes will reflect perfectly. However, I do see that you mention the AcTpCatalog.atc file, which is a catalog file and not the palette file. But you do mention the Palette itself, so sorry if I was confused but I assume you meant the Palette itself and not the catalog palette. Hope this helps. Quote
edwinprakoso Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 That is a known issue. The other workaround you can try is by using text editor (like notepad) or XML notepad. The palette file itself is in XML format. Arrange the order there. That should do the trick. Quote

Tried that many moons ago, and a good number of times since then to see if newer releases accepted this and I cannot recall it ever working correctly. I haven't tried for 2014, though. Quote
spiker7221 Posted July 17, 2013 Author Posted July 17, 2013 Thanks for the help StykFace. That worked great. I figured out a way to set the Tool Palette path to each individual custom location, but what if I want to add an additional path? I need to keep the default Autocad local path so the user can make their own. My LISP changes the path, but I want it to add or append the system variable. Any ideas?
