MSasu Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Have noticed that on an AutoCAD 2013 workstation when the user make an ambiguous pick (that it, pick on top of two or more overlapped items) instead of just selecting one of them, there will appear a list box (whose caption is "Selection") containing all entities that may be selected in that spot and also None option. The user may pick the entity(ies) he/she want to have selected, but this behavior also prevents dragging the entities (since the said list box is shown again). I would appreciate to learn which system variable is responsible for this behavior. Thank you for your attention. Quote
dbroada Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Can you explain what you are doing. I have a pair of XLINEs perpendicular to each other and 2 LINEs over 1 of the XLINEs and a CIRCLE centred on the XLINEs so I have 4 items at one point. If I now MOVE, I can only select 1 item at a time and I don't see your list box. Am I trying the correct thing? This is AutoCAD 2013 electrical running in a "standard" (non electrical) workspace. guran Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Press Ctrl+W to turn Selection cycling off and on Quote
MSasu Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 For example, if I have 3 overlapped lines, when pick on top of them I get this list instead of just having top one selected: Quote
dbroada Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 that's my answer! I have never used that (obviously) before. I'm not sure if I can answer MSasu but once all your items are highlighted you can press space/return to retain the selection set but without the list. Quote
MSasu Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 Press Ctrl+W to turn Selection cycling off and on That it! Thank you very much, Guran! Quote
MSasu Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 once all your items are highlighted you can press space/return to retain the selection set but without the list. That pop-up list may be useful in many cases, but unfortunately prevents one to just drag-and-drop overlapped items. Quote
dbroada Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Here I have already selected Yellow and can now go back in and select Red. Then press space and the yellow and red will move. Quote
dbroada Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 That pop-up list may be useful in many cases, but unfortunately prevents one to just drag-and-drop overlapped items.yes, not sure I'll be using it again. Quote
MSasu Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 Here I have already selected Yellow and can now go back in and select Red. Then press space and the yellow and red will move. That works when use the MOVE command, but don't when tried to relocate the items by drag-and-drop. This requires an extra pick to start the process and this trigger again the selection list. Or maybe I'm missing something. By the way, Dbroada, congratulation for your new Forum title. Quote
dbroada Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 By the way, Dbroada, congratulation for your new Forum title. Thanks, I hadn't spotted that. Just shows how many posts you can add by not quite answering questions. Quote
dbroada Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 lets try again... draw 3 lines, Red, Yellow & Green. hover over the lines and when blue icon appears click the top line. The Selection box appears. Select one line in list and the list disappears but your selected line is still selected. This can be moved independantly using the grips. or hover again to select another item from the list. I don't get the list up if I grab a grip but get the list if I grab the line. Does that help? Quote
MSasu Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 The movement using grips works. Thank you for the solution! Quote
neophoible Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 By the way, Dbroada, congratulation for your new Forum title.Yes, Dave, congrats! How old does that make you!? Quote
neophoible Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Press Ctrl+W to turn Selection cycling off and onguran, thanks for this. I hadn't thought about such an option. Note that this toggle will work in the middle of selecting, that is, once you have the objects you need, you can toggle the Selection box off and continue as usual, which means you do not have to go for a grip in this case. BTW, this feature exists in 2012. I don't know how far back it goes. Quote
Dadgad Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I really like using selection cycling, usually have it on. Quote
MSasu Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 If someone was to find the system variable controlling this behavior, that one could be anyone but the Master of System Variables, aka Dagdad! Thank you! Quote
