CADNoob2 Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Like others on this forum I have problems getting Auto cad to display correctly at a high resolution. I understand the solutions are a) change the DPI settings to 100% from 150% - this then gives me tool-bars that are truly microscopic. b) choose properties/compatibility and disable hi res scaling - had the same problem with Google Chrome and this fixed the problem, however with auto cad the options are ghosted and so I cannot go down that way..... Any ideas would gratefully appreciated. Quote
Dadgad Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Welcome to CADTutor. What are you trying to display? In what way is it displaying incorrectly? You might want to change your VIEWRES system variable setting for starters. If you look at the image you will see that you can make some prliminary adjustments in your OPTIONS on the DISPLAY tab. Should you want to learn a great deal about how Autocad works you can invoke the SYSVDLG command which will take you to the inner sanctum. You might want to save your current .SVF (find the button in the bottom of the SYSVDLG box) before you start monkeying around however, as insurance, should you get your settings into an undesirable state, and want to restore your previous settings. It would be a good idea to keep a list of any variables which you change to help you remember, and assess their various options. Quote
CADNoob2 Posted April 29, 2013 Author Posted April 29, 2013 Hi Dadgad I should clarify - have recently bought a new external monitor - LG EA83, it's a 27" 2560 x 1440 hi res IPS display. Because it is such hi res, I have had to set the general screen magnification on my PC to 150% so that the icons are readable on the desktop etc etc. I discovered that Google Chrome wasn't coping with this, everything was displaying over sized and very fuzzy, and it turned out that the fix was to go into the compatibility tab of the properties menu and check "disable display scaling on high dpi settings" image attached; Next up, Autocad was also exhibiting the same sort of problem - everything was displayed oversize and fuzzy and low res. The Drop down menus were also displaying out of position on screen, which was making things difficult. After checking the Autodesk website, I found that the same fix should work. The problem I have run into is that this option is greyed out, see attached image; So I have resorted to changing the general display magnification on my PC's control panel back to 100%, which has Autocad now displaying correctly, but it, and everything else (Chrome, Word, desktop icons etc etc) has super tiny tools / icons, and it's a little hard on the eyes. I am hoping that someone else may have had the same problem and worked out how to fix it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions Quote
Dadgad Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I'm glad you were able to sort out your cad display issues, you found the solutions which I would have suggested already, and sorry that I can't help you with display of those other programs. Surely somebody will be able to help you though, just be patient ... and enjoy that monster monitor! Quote
ReMark Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 The size of Desktop icons is controlled by Windows. What version are you running? Quote
f700es Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 (edited) Why are you running AutoCAD 2012 in Compatibility mode for Windows 7? Also to change icon size in Windows 7 just right-click on a empty area on the screen and then under View select large icons. I honestly think that you have went way overboard in using a complicated solution that only required an easy fix. Here is another way to increase icon size on the desktop in Win7. Left click on a blank area to make sure nothing is selected. Hold down the Ctrl button on your keyboard and then use your scroll wheel to increase or decrease your desktop icon size. Good luck Edited April 30, 2013 by f700es Quote
SLW210 Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I moved your thread to the Hardware & Operating Systems forum. You might want to think about going to a smaller 2nd monitor for browsing and Word, etc. Quote
RobDraw Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I'm surprised no one has mentioned this. To change the icons and text in menus etc. for all programs, go to Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display. The page is titled "Make it easier to read what's on your screen". Medium should be large enough. Quote
