cbgcm Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 For some strange reason when I got to work this morning I was unable to view items as I draw. I can see lines as I draw once I specify the first point with ortho on or off, but I can't see shapes (dimensions, circles, rectangles, ellipse, or box) while I draw. Once I select the second point the object does appear but a setting has changed and I can't figure out how to get it back to normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote
Rewind23 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 @cbgcm - What do you mean you can't see shapes - dimensions, circles, rectangles, ellipse or box?Are you referring to Ribbon Icons? Can you post some screenshots of your problem?Regards Quote
Dadgad Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Welcome to CADTutor. If one or more of your system variable settings has gone awry, you now belatedly understand just how useful it can be to have previously saved a .SVF (system variable file). Depending on whether or not you have set up a number of personalizations in your system variable settings, the following may or may not be helpful. Enter sysvdlg at the commandline, which will open the system variable dialog box. This is one of the very best places to learn about available options for the bazillion different system variables in the program. Should you want to create a record of your current system variable settings, use the SAVE ALL button, and give it an appropriate name and store it where you will later be able to find it, should you need to. If you are prepared to restore all of the program DEFAULT system variable settings, then use the READ button. PLEASE UNDERSTAND, in case you have personalized your settings, that they will be lost when the default values are restored, unless of course, you HAVE saved a .SVF file. Might this be as simple as turning on your OSNAPS with F3, or your DYNAMIC INPUT with F12? Quote
RobDraw Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 DRAGMODE is the variable that controls the visibility of objects while drawing or modifying them. I think the default setting is AUTO. Quote
Dadgad Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 It doesn't seem like that would do it, based on the sysvdlg information as shown in the attachment. Maybe the DEMANDLOAD variable is the key? Quote
RobDraw Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 You can't always tell what's in a box until you open it. This has been tested and verified. With DRAGMODE set to off, in addition to what is stated in your big box of tricks (Which I love, BTW.), objects do not display while drawing. Before I post, I usually test features that I don't use on a regular basis, just to make sure what I am saying is correct. If I am away from AutoCAD, I will say that I am not sure or can't test it at the moment. Quote
Dadgad Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Sorry Rob, I am knee deep in a super tall, and didn't have time to test it. The way you wrote your post it sounded like conjecture. Drag to me sounded like dragging and dropping, and I don't think the description they wrote was very good for the variable. Perhaps that was influenced by my thinking they were talking about relocating things. I am a great fan of your input and depth of knowledge, good call. But why would anybody choose to use it? Sounds pretty strange, and I still don't have time to actually test or play around with it. Keep up the good work! Quote
RobDraw Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Sorry Rob, I am knee deep in a super tall, and didn't have time to test it. The way you wrote your post it sounded likeconjecture. Please do not apologize to me. Posts get misread all the time. Drag to me sounded like dragging and dropping, and I don't think the description they wrote was very good for the variable. Perhaps that was influenced by my thinking they were talking about relocating things. Actually, that variable was a guess that I pulled outta you know where. It had gotten changed on me somehow just before I was grip editing a leader. Could not see the leader as I was stretching it which matches the description. I am a great fan of your input and depth of knowledge, good call. But why would anybody choose to use it? Sounds pretty strange, and I still don't have time to actually test or play around with it. Keep up the good work! TYVM, Dadgad, and I am a huge fan of your knowledge. You have a lot of great input here. As far as turning off DRAGMODE, I think it is a very old variable and would help with video performance on low end systems. Quote
