Hi! I tried to convert the cone surface which is created by revolving line, to solid, but always fail. Can some body coach me how to convert it? (Autocad 2013)

Thanks in advance.

Why did you elect to create a cone this way instead of using a primitive?

Create a circle equal to the base of your cone. Create a region out of the circle. Place your cone on this circular region. Use the SURFSCULPT command to create a 3D solid out of the two entities.

Yes, it works. I tried it myself using AutoCAD 2013.

Thanks so much! That works.

One more follow up question is if we can extend the cone surface to the surface of sphere (center direction), and show the intersection line, similiar as 2D's extend?

I think so. Post an image so I can see what you're referring to.

Thanks again, Sir. attached please find the image which I have created sphere and cone shape. I can see the bottom of cone is very close to the surface of sphere, but still have gap. You will be highly appreciated if you can coach me how to extend the cone to the surface of sphere, so that I can measure area of intersection line, and would like not merge this two objet, so we adjust the location of cone.

Thanks in advance for your great education.

To actually and fully touch the surface of the sphere wouldn't the bottom of the cone have to be concave?

Yes, that is exactly what I want. Could you please coach me how to get it?

Your cone has to extend into the sphere. Then use either the Subtract command or the Slice command with the Surface option to cut away the base of the cone.

I would make the bottom of the profile for Revolving the cone the same arc radius as the sphere.

If the cone was offset from the centerline of the sphere, then in that case I would create the cone such that the base interfers with the sphere and Subtract.

Attach your dwg file here if you can't figure it out.

See that area I circled in red? That's the concave base of your cone.

Thanks so much, both. The both ways work well. Could you please give me one favor on how to measure the surface area of concave?

Really appreciate your great education.

That sounds like a good question for JDM to answer.

Explode the cone into surfaces.

aa Enter

o Enter

Thanks so much, both. I don't how to express my thank you for your kindly coaching. Best Regards!
