We've been fighting with this and the conclusion we've come to is that it's an autocad problem and there's nothing we can do about it.

 

We have detail drawings that contain horizontal and vertical dimensions. They're drawn at full scale in model space and saved as individual drawings. We then insert them as blocks onto a sheet in paper space, scaling them down to 1/2", 1/4" scale ETC.

 

Here's the problem - all the vertical dimension text appears bolder than everything else when scaled down. Horizontal text is just fine, diagonal text also looks a little bolder though. It seems that it's just a quirk of autocad that it does that.

Please ensure that all those labels were drawn at the same elevation (Z coordinate). The FLATTEN command (from Express pack) may help.
