This may be a job for Mesh Modeling.

 

 

I don't use that modeling technique myself but it may be a good way to physically manipulate a fairly regular starting grid into a more organic shape as hinted at by your profiles.

 

 

The mesh can be smoothed, and eventually made into a Solid.

 

 

I don't see much talk about mesh modeling; If you do pursue that technique, perhaps you could post a good tutorial here for the benefit of others.

 

 

My attempt looks pretty crude - first attempt at that particular process.
