I am having some trouble getting a 3D drawing to plot in a way that is satisfactory. This is the first 3D model that I have done that needs presenting professionally.

The problem I am having is with the cylindrical parts of the drawing (tubing, filters etc). For example I have a 5" long section of pipe created with xpipe.lsp that when plotted using the hidden visual stlye does not display correctly, the bottom line is fine, but the top line has a 4" section in the middle missing. This is repeated across the drawing. When plotting to a PDF I get a similar result. Also on some bulkhead connectors some of the detail is missing around cylindrical areas.

I am trying to achieve an outline in black of the drawing similar to this unrelated example: honda-civic-1200-eb3-1979-3d-hmt-honda-matic-air-cleaner-tubing_mediumma000186b01-1_8b5f.jpg

Can anyone help me in what I might be doing wrong?

Might help to post the .dwg, but at least some screen shots of the Plot settings, maybe a plot preview.

You can make a copy of your drawing and delete all but the troublesome objects, -PURGE to reduce file size.

Have you tried the Viewbase command to see if you get better results? Maybe try Flatshot as well.

SLW: The dwg is too big even after I've removed all the parts that are ok and zipped!! I have attached a screen shot with some notes on instead. It is affected in different ways in different views (eg front / se iso)

rkent: I have not heard of these commands I will have a look into what they do and give them a try.

I have made a test image and printed another machine in the office(acad 2010), The drawing printed ok. So I opened it on my machine and printed it to the same printer... I experience the same problem as the actual drawing!!! (See attachments)

So something is either wrong with my print set up, Autocad 2013 setup or my PC in general!

Brilliant!! Thank rkent, that works a treat! I just have to redraw some of the parts downloaded from a manufactures website as they don't show but that's not a problem.

Doesn't explain why it want to print properly from my PC though!

What is the difference in the two computers?

Do you have all updates and service packs installed for 2013?

What type of objects are from the manufacturers? I have sometimes had the 3D objects from manufacturers download as blocks and just had to explode them to modify or create 2D profiles.

One is about 3-4 years old, not sure of specs running Autocad 2010 on XP, prints fine. Mine is a few months old i7, 8gb ram, GT640 running Autocad 2013 on Win 7. I think it is up to date... how do I check?

The objects were in DXF format. Not sure what that means? Might of been created in another program or an old version of Acad

Pretty sure I have those updates, I will try and install them after I'm done working, unless you can find out within Autocad?

For the service packs, in AutoCAD, just type ABOUT on the command line. Initial release is Version 1.

Or, for Win 7..... Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Installed Updates
