noobasaur Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I have taken 1 class in AutoCAD...this is such a noobish question my professor wants me to write my name and the diameter of a certain circle on my drawing using AutoCAD...I don't know how...I've been looking at all the buttons for like an hour...AutoCAD 2009.. Strix Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 are you using buttons or text entry for your commands? I'm not sure how specific your professor was about how this thing is supposed to look, but you could write your name with MTEXT, and the diameter of the circle should almost certainly be done using a DIMENSION given how ambiguous your instruction appears to be, you could DIMENSION the circle, but use a text override or edit the PROPERTIES to add your name to the dimension alongside the figure for its diameter There's always more than one way to skin a cat in AutoCAD  Quote
asos2000 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 As I am seeing from that question that, the prof wants to train them about using the line as attached, this is my opinion about writing the name Draw rectangular as shown, Then draw LINE (its better to use PLINE) and follows the sequence when u finish number 11 you will get an N, This is the first letter of your name Then follow your imagination to complete your name Attached the dwg file but i prefer to start by yourself Name.dwg Quote
ReMark Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Please specify whether your professor has instructed you to "write" your name using lines/polylines or to do it using DText or MText. The default setting for drawing a circle is to input the radius. To override this type the letter 'D' at the command line (then press Enter) after which you'll be allowed to draw the circle using a diameter instead. Just type in the diameter you want to use. Quote

Here is one way to annotate the diameter of the circle: * Type in FIELD * Under "Field Category", select Objects. * Under "Field Names", select Object. * Next to "Object Type", pick the Select button, and select the circle. * Under "Property", select Diameter. * Pick the OK button and then place the text in the drawing by picking a location. For your name: * Type in MTEXT * Pick two points to define the MTEXT extents * Enter your Name * Click anywhere in the drawing to end the MTEXT command. Quote
ziemerd Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Ok...here's another way. Draw your circle like ReMark said and then go to dimension on the top menu bar and click on diameter. Then click on the circle, then type M and enter. You will be able to to type in your name and when you hit enter your name will be in with the dimension of the circle. This is not something you want to do in drawings but it is handy to know how to add text to a dimension. Hope this all helps. Quote
